I take care of the basic maintence on my mom's car. She is not very good about doing maintence so I do it. Her car is a 2005 Camry 4cyl. I hauled the car to the dealer for free oil changes until they ran out at 30K miles (5K oci). I am just too busy to do 5k oci's on her car so at 30K I put in Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 with the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter for 15K and I repeated this at 45K.

It takes her about 14 months to go 15k miles. She has ZERO short trips and parks in a climate controlled garage. The car has never used any oil and the very scientific test of looking in the fill hole shows a clean top end.

The car will keep getting 15K oci's so you can hold off on the long vs short oci debate.

She is coming up on 60k and will need fresh oil and filter in a few weeks. Every 15K her car gets new air and cabin filters also. She gave me her credit card and told me to get whatever it needs. I told her I wanted to try something different/better this time and she told me she didn't care what it cost just get what I think is best. Her car gets a ATF drain/refill this time also.

I am going to order some AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 and a Eao filter. Do you guys think that is worth the extra money over the Mobil 1 Extended Performance? I'm pretty sure it is but I am not sure.

What other options should I explore?

The only thing is it must handle a 15K/12-14month oci.

I, of course, think SSO is just a better oil for extended drains than the EP. If the engine is using no EP, then it certainly shouldn't consume SSO based on my experience.

The money difference is not huge - you really aren't spending that much money on oil anyway if you change the oil every 14K. (compared to the cost of the car, the fuel or even 3K oil changes)

Did ever you do a used oil analysis on the EP?

No UOA. I would like to on this upcoming drain just to see what it is like but I am too cheap to foot the bill myself and never really thought about it since it isn't my car. It would be nice since we don't see alot of UOA with long oci's on here much with mobil's claims of 15k intervals this would be a perfect situation to see if they are true since it will have @15k miles on the oil.

Pablo you have email inbound about this order.

These are both good oils. I would change it once a year in the fall at 12-13 and call it good.

I agree with Pablo.

The Amsoil EAO Oil Filter has been proven to be superior, so if you want to use the best, I would put that in also.

How often is the oil level checked and how much oil is added at what interval ??

Im judging by his remarks in the original post that he checks the stick regularly to know that the car does not use any oil over the 15K interval.

I would agree that this is a perfect candidate for SSO and filter for 1yr/25K (or in his case 15K) intervals.

Im sure PP would probably make it in a one year interval as well but I for one would feel much better knowing that their is an oil & filter (amsoil) that will do it no problems.

Correct. The car uses zero oil and I check it every 2-3K (when my mom comes to visit). Two 15K intervals so far have shown zero consumption.
