Lock car at night

Only a dumb dumb leave their vehicles unlocked and complain when something is stolen.

SMH….
I agree and I have all my life. I’m a bit more complacent now. Sometimes we don’t even lock the house other times we do. Everything is controlled by our phones so sometimes we remember when we we’re out and do it then.

It’s kind of a cool feeling.
We live in a crime free zone as humanly possible here. Gated community, license plate readers and regular cameras record every car that comes in and goes out.

In addition security patrols and a security office with big screens lit up, displaying all the cameras.
You even get a call if you happen to leave your garage open by mistake.

If you leave your car on the street overnight, you’ll get a warning as the first offense. Being a golf resort, you tend to get older mature adults, and couples versus young kids.
I’m only typing all this because it reminds me of security when I read a thread like this.

It’s pretty cool 🙃

I park my car in the garage where it should be, but if it's outside I always lock it as I get out of it. Not sure why this 10 PM locking is even necessary unless that's when you're getting home, you can't be getting stuff in and out of it that often.

Aren't you on the board? You were asking about quotes for a gate repair a few months back iirc.

Have you looked into if you can disable the chirp? Park the truck where you can see the lights blink to confirm locking?

A good neighbor who's on your side is another tool in avoiding crime.
I go to gym at 11pm-2am, and I park my beater on the street. I have an alarm but I typically just lock and unlock using a physical key to avoid disturbing my neighbor's sleep. Do I have to? No, but it is easier to avoid escalation and fly under the radar.

I have concluded we need to be more safety aware and I have started to lock my truck when I go to sleep normally between 10 and 11 PM. Thera is usually one chirp.

We have also started to lock our house unless one of us in in the yard.

I often put stuff in or get stuff out of my truck during the day. Not looking to constantly lock and unlock my truck during the day.

Annoying neighbor has complained to the HOA board about the chirp at night.

For me who might forget things, locking my truck as part of a going-to-bed routine seems like a good way to make sure it's locked overnight.

While I realize there are ten different ways I could handle locking my truck, I do not think a chirp is a big deal at night. There are occasional dogs barking around the neighborhood along with a few honking their horn for unknown reasons.
Just lock it from the buttons on the door panel

The HOA board met and discussed. Other board members lock their car at late night with a "chirp". Or two. Others hear a neighbor's wind chimes. Bottom line is there are noises in the neighborhood at night.

The board responded the complaint was "non actionable".

While I expected the neighbor to comment, I have heard nothing.

To me, before 11pm does not seem unreasonable. I would not go out of my way to aggravate him. But i would carry on my life as normal.

I get stuff out of my truck during the day for varying reasons so I keep it open during the day.

For me walking the dog, locking the house and locking my truck just before I go to bed makes sense. Usually between 10 and 11 PM

I feel it's reasonable for a door locking chirp as long as it's not really late at night or multiple times.

I'm paranoid. I lock my car inside my garage, in a neighborhood with virtually zero crime. 😳
Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean that they're not out to get you... ;)

I'm right there with you. Vehicles are in the garage, locked. When I'm out doing yard work, the door between the house and garage is locked, and the garage door is closed. If someone wants in, they're at least going to have to work a bit to get there.

Our relatives live in the NYC metro area and don’t lock anything. They state nothing had ever happened no need. I really don’t know how they drew their conclusions and if there is any ulterior motive. One car was stolen and recovered. It’s really hard sometimes seemingly like we’re boiling the ocean in discussions

A dog helps. A family I know never locked their house. A boyfriend of one of the daughters stopped by one day, knew the door was unlocked and went in. Turns out no one was home. As he starts to leave the family's German Shephard blocks his way and starts growling. Boyfriend sat down at the kitchen table and the dog calms down. He was stuck there until one of the family members came home and the dog knew things were ok.
