What is the function of Lithium in motor oil?

Lithium is an additive in some high mileage oils like Mobil 1 HM.

lithium soaps as thickeners in grease, (it acts as sponge holding the oil dissolved in the grease)

Duh, photons rays given off by the reactor in the carrier USS Enterprise. Please do not ask me to explain the science behind it. BTW, would it not make sense that the synthesizer on board the starship would be able to produce dilithium crystals, or even kyber crystals?

Some oils are bi-polar...so lithium is indicated...for example, there is 0w-20...again, bi-polar...some call it crazy oil.

The way this thread is going, I would not be surprised to hear about some dude chugging motor oil in Walmart to quell the "voices in his head" .

Then a thread will pop up on bitog about which oil to chug due to its "voice stabilization" abilities.
