How do I start a remote session with Mint? Both machines are running 18.1 Mate and are on different networks. If I go to desktop sharing, I get this dialog box but not sure how to initiate it on the other machine.

Is Remmina not installed on Mint systems by default? That is Ubuntu's default VNC viewer.

It seems like you've got the VNC server part ready to roll: Just check the top radio box in white, then decide on the options in the Security section. Use whatever VNC viewer is installed or that you install (I'd still use Remmina unless Mint installs another one by default) to connect via VNC to the IP address or host name of the machine on which you've set up the server.

EDIT - If it isn't installed already, you'll need to install Remmina and possibly a separate plugin for VNC: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=231561

i'd recommend keeping it simple and just use Teamviewer. It does it all for you.

I use it everyday for ubuntu based, redhat based and windows based clients. I like that I can load a host only component on some machines and that keeps the end user from messing around.
