Blackstone: The universal averages column shows typical wear from this type of transmission after about 27,000 miles on the oil. Depending on how long this oil was run, the copper and lead may be normal or it could show some excess wear at bronze parts. If the oil was run significantly longer, that may account for the excess wear. The oil was still in pretty good shape physically, so we don’t think the oil was over-run. The viscosity was fine and no insolubles showed up. In any case, we think it was a good time to have the oil changed. Check back in 20,000 miles.

Seems like a lot of wear metal for 40,000 miles to me. I would go to a 20,000 mile and change and test. I think the recomendation from most transmission experts is 30,000 mile changes however some transmission require even quicker changes. I think we really need more data on transmissions before we can get a better idea on what is reasonable for wear metals. I think over 200ppm would be in the worrysome area.

ya know - I'll bet the 60k service was a drain/fill only - not a complete flush. if so, this fluid would be a 50/50 mix of 100k ATF and 40k ATF - which would make alot more sense given these wear numbers. in any case I'll be sampling again in 20k miles.
