Last winter I bought a light for my head so I could use my snowblower at night. Using the snowblower with one hand while holding a flashlight with the other was difficult.

But recently I have been using it a lot while working on various things. Its just very handy and bright. Not only at night.

OK, it is a little dorky,

This one has a choice of 3 LEDs (flood) or a single normal bulb (spot).

Although based upon the flashlights that Lowe's sells, the normal bulb is a LED. The others are hard to find.

HF has one that works well, but do not drop it. The batteries fly out and it is no fun finding them in the dark. After recharging the AAA's, I stretch some electrical tape around the seam.

Petzl makes some super high quality units.

Given how long the normal alkaline batteries last with LEDs, I am not sure of the need for rechargeable unless you are a coal miner and wear it daily.

I have 3 headlights. I fish a lot at night so I have one on my boat. One stays available for work in the crawlspace, etc. And one stays by the computer desk for use behind it and for peering behind the Sound system. I have been using them for over 10 years. I use rechargeables only in the fishing one as I use it often.

Wife got me a four pack of the lowes ones with 3 leds: 2 white, 1 red. They were on clearance for four bucks! Incredible how two LEDs lets one see well enough to snowblow at night.

I feed mine "dead" AAs from other devices. Sometimes I briefly recharge them against instructions.

The Energizer one is nearly indestructible. I've had one in the tool box for 3 years!

How can these things be so bright and yet you never need batteries?
