Lifted truck? Lower those lights.

How can I make this into a public awareness campaign?

I saw the old thread about the guy complaining about HIDs, but at least this has genuine merit. This is almost as annoying as when some cars have way off balance headlights where one shines 2x brighter than high beams and the other is barely lit.

Anyway, I guess lifted trucks are a big deal here in the city because I can't recall seeing many in my small home town. Don't these guys know they need to re-aim the headlights MORE DOWN if they lift the truck UP?

When they point straight down they don't have much of a pattern.

In some states ride height alterations are a defective equipment citation for just that reason, as are "smoked" headlamp covers.

I lifted mine 3" and 30 minutes after putting away my tools I turn my lights down a bit. When it became night I tested it out. After a couple of attempts I found the perfect balance.
People just do not care. They know it's blinding others but just could not care less.

This is an actual statement I have heard from someone:

"If they're blinded by my lights, they should get a real truck like I have!"

Some guys apparently enjoy blinding others with their headlamps; it makes them feel superior to others with "lesser" (lower) vehicles.

Another annoyance: A Semi or other vehicle with one light bouncing around so it looks like a strobe...

Something about my (stock) Honda Insight makes sure that I get at least an eyeful of headlamp glare from my rearview mirrors. It's unbearable. All kinds of cars, lifted trucks are no exception. But I agree that headlight laws should be vigorously enforced, sadly the police only care about speeders around here and let the people who swerve around lanes and cut people off without even using their blinkers, have a pass...

I hate it when people think that their high beams are "backup" lights for when one of the low beams goes out. My brother's ex girlfriend drove around for a couple of months with her high beams on because she had one of the lows burned out and was too lazy to fix it.

There is in the Maine state inspection handbook. Potentially a DOT cut and paste.

Notice the new ford super dutys have the headlights akwardly (stylistically) lower than the turn signals.

I believe it. I have some KC offroad lights that are incredibly bright, but I only use them on dark back roads or in the woods. When I lifted my Jeep 2" I re-aimed my headlights. There is a guy around here with a lifted bro-truck who put HIDs in his headlights. The worst combination. He also drives like a moron and leaves clouds of smoke from his diesel exhaust. People like that I have no problem flashing my high beams and 130 watt KCs at. If I can't see I doubt the really low to the ground cars can.

Sadly, common sense and courtesy are in short supply for this and many other things.

There are a bunch of those lifted "bro-trucks" around here with HID's in halogen housings glaring all over the place. They get my high beams when it won't blind other oncoming traffic.

Same here. And my high beams are nothing to mess with (nor to point in anyone's face carelessly), as it's 600 watts worth of halogens (100w e-code high beams, pair of 100w pencil beams and pair of 100w driving beams). The best is when I give them the high beams and they flash back, but their stock halogen high beams are throwing LESS light in my face than their low beams!

my subaru legacy was awful about side mirror position--- and followed by any truck or SUV was actually painful at night. On interstate trips I'd often put something over the mirror so I wouldn't lose night vision. This was probably the biggest reason I stopped driving sedans/wagons.... very uncomfortable at night.

I used to have a mirrored panel in my Impala that I could tilt to focus the headlights behind me right back into their face. The brighter the better.

The Chrysler has nifty liquid crystal mirrors that darken down automatically so that is no longer an annoyance. But these nut jobs and their goofy looking lights need to be cited by law enforcement the second they're seen.

Very hazardous. And nothing looks stupider than the doofus in an old car or truck with glaringly blue headlights!

Not too long ago traveling north on I-81 outside of Roanoke, there was a pick-up truck with really obnoxious headlights that passed me....a while later he appeared in my mirrors again and sure enough, it was the same guy, apparently getting off an exit for ?? and back on. This happened several times in the course of 100 miles or so and then, at the rest area just inside Maryland, he was looking at the front of his truck and it appeared both headlights had been broken out while he was inside the facilities. I guess he bothered someone other than me....hahahaha! Good for whoever "did" it! My wife and I both had a good laugh and would have bought a coffee for whoever did the dirty deed....his truck was VERY obnoxious!

My father has a GPS that tells you to get off the interstate EVERY exit and right back on. Maybe they have the same GPS?

I can't stand the people with the obnoxious headlights. I have 3'' of lift in my Cherokee and tried to re-aim but the adjusters don't seem to work any more.
