Not sure why I decided to do this, but I have moved away from straight Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Toyota OEM filters and have gone to a mix of Mobil 5000 (3 qts) and Mobil 1 Extended Performance (2 qts) and a Fram Extended Guard Oil Filter.

My thought was to get all of the products at Wal-Mart and I was going to go with Mobil 7500, but the Wal-Mart I shop at doesn't carry it.

Due to my wife's driving patterns and because it is easier to remember, I follow a 5,000 mile oil change schedule and just decided I was throwing away perfectly good oil with the Mobil 1.

I always laugh when I read this but the vehicle seems more quiet than before

. Probably just me wanting to believe this regimen will be good as good for the car.

Thoughts?

This regimen, IMHO, will be just as good for your engine as straight M1, with your 5000 mile OCI. Unless your engine is turbocharged, M1 is a waste unless you are doing 1 year or 10,000+ mile OCI's. You would be just as well off using straight Mobil 5000 without the mixing.

Lucky you...2004 model Toyo/Lexus have a MAX 7500 mi. OCI, only the 2005+ have a required 5000 mi. OCI.

If I were you, I would use Mobil 1 5w30 and Mobil 1 Oil Filter @7500 mi. OCI. Fram X2 Filter is good, they're different than the Extra Guard and Tough Guards; however, they're overpriced, Mobil 1 Oil Filters are a better deal???? How much are you paying for the Fram X2 filters?

Otherwise, I'd run Mobil Clean 5000 10w30 or Havoline 10w30 @5K OCIs with Ecores.

I paid $9.95 for the Extended Guard at Wally's.

The Wal-Mart we go to only has the orange wall of doom; I didn't see any SuperTech's (actually they had just a few, but not for our vehicle).

I normally use Toyota OEM filters, but after reading the results of the filter test here at BITOG, I decided the Fram Extended Guard might be the ticket.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I am going to send in a sample from the next oil change for Terry to review ... especially since we are approaching 40,000 miles and I want to make sure there aren't any problems before the warranty is up at 50,000 miles.

My sienna liked mobil 1 but I will try GC after the 2nd auto-rx's. I thought toyota oem filter was one of better one's, which is made by denso. I use toyo's oem filter and just started using wixs filter on tahoe and rsx.
