My wife was leaving work today and the 2007 Lexus GX470 won't move. Reverse or Drive. Scanned it but no codes. The AT/P, Tire pressure, VSC and the Center Lock Dif light are on. When you push it from R to P, you get a grinding noise for a few seconds. I did figure out if you put it in 4WD, it drives normally. I did notice the parking brake lever won't lock in place when you try to apply it. She says she hasn't run over anything and it ran fine going to work. She did say it seemed to lose power going up the hill coming back from lunch. I was able to drive it home in 4WD. Any ideas?

I had an issue with my LX570 where all sorts of crazy light were coming on, just like yours, it was the ground wire from the tcase to the body. It had corroded. I ran a new ground from the tcase to body and body to frame. Not sure if that is your issue, or if yours even has a similar setup, but it is worth a shot.

The parking brake thing I have no idea, as they are mechanical........

and wives lie....there is that. :)

grinding noise in park, but drives in 4wd.. you got some issues.
Generically come up with a troubleshooting plan.
Research with google?

But I drove it home in 4WD? So this means the front diff did all the driving?

The GX470 is full-time 4wd. Meaning it is ALWAYS in 4wd.

What exactly are you doing when you think you've shifted into 4wd?

If the transfer case is in Neutral position, the vehicle won't move. I suspect she bumped the transfer case lever from 'Hi' to 'N'.

From the description of the lights that are illuminated, you have shifted the T-case into low-range, which will turn off the VSC and lock the center diff. Shift the T-case back into 'Hi'.

The tire pressure light is likely due to one or more tires now being at too low of pressure, likely because the ambient temperature recently dropped. You lose approx. 1 PSI of air pressure for every 10° F drop in temperature.

Gebo, go out to your GX470.

Start the engine
Put your foot on the brake
Shift the the transmission to neutral
Now grab the T-case shifter and pull it back into neutral, and then into 'Hi'
Everything should be fine at this point.

If you still have a low tire pressure light, check that all of your tires are properly inflated.

Ignorance is one of my main attributes. I never drive the GX.

I just pulled it back to H and it ran fine. I don’t know what you mean about shifting the T case back to high. Maybe push that button on the left side of the lower dash?? I did and it started blinking.

So apparently I have a cluster funk of 3 different issues attacking me simultaneously.

Thank you! What an idiot…..

I’m in the bed. Is it mean if I don’t wake my wife and tell her all is well ?

Without realizing it, you did exactly what I was instructing you to do. I'm glad it was an easy 'fix'.

I had an '03 Sequoia with manual lever for 4H and 4L. My wife slammed on the brakes and her pocket book slid forward and knocked that into neutral. All the lights came and it wouldn't move according to her. At least it happened while I was only 5 minutes away. She thoght transmission died. She coasted on slight hill to side of road.

Some of the buttons with flashing, I don't know on yours is the center differential lock. Mine had full time AWD button, and the sperate diff lock button. The green wheels would turn on at the dash IIRC when in AWD and there was a center orange circle that would flash until that locked. The center diff lock would also disable ESC since it couldn't apply different axle brakes due to being locked together like old school 4WD.

That center diff lock did need to be exercised to keep it working, it was a common issue for not working with rust/debris/stuck solenoid. IIRC the owners manual (and drivers side sun visor) said to do that for a couple miles monthly also for the AWD/4WD. I didn't drive it as often so my habit was each time I took it I would put it full time AWD and then on a straight area do the center diff lock. I would also then do the 4WD Lo, locked and unlocked.

I hadn't done that for a while and the solenoid need some love taps with a plastic mallet to engage, then worked fine if done normally. The grounds were something I also recall mentioned.

Mine since a bit older only had the 2WD/4HI and the center diff lock buttons. The 4LO was with the T-case lever. Diff lock could be on or off even in 4LO

Not mean, considerate of her sleep needs. She will be happy in the morning to know all is well.

Kinda like choreplay. You do nice things, help with chores, maybe get to play.

Stop hanging things from transfer case lever.

I got up this morning and took the GX around the block at 20 degrees and high winds. Had to disengage the 4 WD Lock by pressing that button. TPMS stayed on. All is well.

She just got up and I gave her the good news while she was getting her morning news feed. She did say she slammed on the brakes coming back to work before it started acting like it was coming out of gear. She did say she pressed some buttons on the dash (Lock Differential Button). She did say the TPMS light has been on since it got into the 20's.

02SE, many thanks!

She does know what that TPMS light means correct? Before she gets stuck somewhere, destroys a tire or has a accident from it? Run them too low and it will cost at least 1 tire if not 4 due to wear differences and the AWD systems.

Tire Pressure gauge and some quick instructions warranted. At LEAST a "honey my TPMS light came on" so you can check ASAP.

Last time spare was checked in case it's needed?

One of these Harbor Freight inflators resides in all my vehicles (6 of them). No battery to worry about being charged, works well, room in bag for small plug kit. Sadly looks like being discontinued. My wife and kids have used many times, mostly helping others, just like the battery jump packs.
