Ralph likes Kimberly Clark, but says Scott 1000 is also good. What are the rest of you using in your TP filters? Years ago when I worked at a retail business, I picked up a case of commercial grade (meaning not available in stores) TP for the business. It was very densely wound. Not much for soft on the rear end, but you could get a whole lot of wipes out of one roll. I wonder if that type would be good for the TP filters. Thoughts?

I have never used the commercial grade, but I would think that is the way to go. Why? No dyes, perfumes, puffie creations, 1 ply not 2, and tightly rolled....just good ole...plain....TP! That's my take on it...hands down or up

installing the roll.

I use Scott 1000 because it is 1.5" core and so is my old Frantz. Any other brands/types with the small core?

I always order the TPs from Frantz. I find their TPs not only fit their bypass filters the best, but also are the most densely packed I have encountered so far. I have squeezed every possible name brand of TP in the supermarkets, and find none of them comes closed to Frantz'. IMO, the Scott 1000 is still too loosely packed. Kimberly Clark (used in my company restrooms) is slightly better, but still not as good as Frantz' TP. I want to reduce the risk of channeling associated with TPs as much as possible. Well, you get what you pay for.

I just purchased some Frantz TP for an old Frantz I bought on Ebay. I tried it in a Motorguard (yet to be installed) and it did fit. However, I would not use it in a Motorguard as it is shorter by about 1/8th of an inch (less compression of the roll) and more narrow a good 1/4 inch or more (just barly sealed on the tapered bottom). It may work, but the Scott 1000 has a better seal due to its larger size.

I use the Scott stuff in my Frantz, and get great analysis #'s with Delo 400 in my '02 Cummins - but I really like some of the commercial grade stuff - obviously POOR for regular TP use, but the density sure seems great for use in these bypass setups. The stuff Frantz sells direct looks good too, and I have some on it's way, want to do a test run and analysis on my next oil change to compare against the Scott stuff...

I have not seen any UOAs for TP bypassed engines. How do they compare with UOAs from the same vehicles with spin-on bypass filters, or engines with full flow only filters? I'll send in a sample, but not until I get at least 10 to 12 thousand miles on my oil.

I have been using a Motor Guard bypass on this engine since new
and due to the type of driving i am changing oil about 3K miles
while still under warranty. I have had two UOA on this vehicle
and as far as wear on the last report i have never seen one any
better.http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=739177&an=0&page=18#Post739177

Holy Cow! The wear metals are the lowest I have ever seen. The change in copper from 34 to 1 is incredible. I am assuming the high copper on the previous UOA was from being a new engine. I guess thin oil can perform great. Thanks for the post.

Guys, I just bought 1-ply Scott 1000, but the roll and the paper are too big. Did I buy the wrong stuff?

I also use Scott 1000. You will have to unwrap the excess paper off of the roll to make it small enough to fit just snug into the housing. Ralph says he makes it fit into the housing with 2 fingers. This means not very tight.

The core is also too big. There seems to be a mm or 2 around all of it, where the original MG TP that came with it is tight. I have an old metal one.

Ralph is the best one to answer questions about TP filters, but he has not been on the forum for a few days. Maybe he went somewhere for the holidays. My 2 Ralph Wood Motorguards are made to take the 1.5" or the 1.625" cores. The Scott 1000 that I use has a core thats just a little big so I use Ralph's sugggestion and save cores from the TP in the bathroom and split them longways. Then they can be rolled up inside of your TP core to take up some excess space. Are you using a Motor Guard or something else?

Sorry, Cherokee, I just edited my post, yeah, I am using an old MG, the metal ones, and that isn't a bad idea. I just don't want channeling on a new roll. I know Ralph is out. I PMed him about gaskets for the thing a few days ago and haven't heard anything back from him.
