Chimay,

Thank you for the link to Globalbeer, I have viewed that site before and continue viewing to learn about Belgium beers, maybe someday, I can travel to Europe and visit the Van Steenberge brewery, I know I will buy the six pack of Van Steenberge again.

NovaMan,

That is an idea, I have heard that Bell's Oberon beer with an orange slice is good to, I could buy both the Oberon and Blue Moon for my Father-in-Law.

By the way, has anyone been to a 'Beer Expo'?

May 19th & 20th, there is a World Beer Expo in Frankenmuth , Michigan, I plan to go, $5.00 to enter, I have never been to a 'Beer Expo', they are charging $1.000 per beer sample,
there will be live music, etc., going on,
is it as easy as walking around trying the different beers that are presented by the breweries that will be present?

My wife and I plan to get a room at a hotel that is located next to the Beer Expo, and enjoy tasting beers, my wife does not like beer but a Cider brewer will be there and she may try those,
I just wondered to what to expect at a Beer Expo

Tonights beer is Kozel Velkopopovicky in a larger than usual 500ml bottle, a Bohemian Pilsen style beer. A beer that spontaneously forms a dense, persistent foam invariably delivers the goods. In true Pilsen style, Kozel leads with pungent, resiny hops aroma-an invigorating character that invites a sip, then lightens, brightens and dries the palate and invites another sip. And perhaps another. Maybe one more, too. Yea had to many of the one more too's and got one 'ell of a hangover. Excellent beer though, check this one out yourselves.

Ion,
Carlsberg is required to rename thier elephant beer, 'Elephant Malt Liquor,' when selling it in the US.
(I enjoyed the Carlsberg bewery tour more than any other i've been on.)

Enjoy your beer and drink one for me.

My personal favorite right there.
Nut Brown Ale & Oatmeal Stout.

Their annual Holiday Ale is fantastic as well.

Jsut wish I could find it for less than $2.50/bottle.

x3...their oatmeal stout rocks. $7 for a 4-pack over here, and I can get it at a regular grocery store (Schnucks) to boot! Cheap n good: that's my kind of beer! (They make a good imperial stout too.)

I have a hankerin' for a good British "mild" right now. That and a light brown ale are my favorites. Oh crap it's six am.....Scotch?

sprintman - I wonder if that beer is like the Pilsner Popovich (maybe the same?) my friend smuggled in....threw his clothes out and filled his suit case with beer. That stuff is the nektar of the G0DS......

What I had wasn't Elephant Malt Liquor, it was similar in flavor to Heineken. Not too bad, but not what I was expecting. Now that I know what it's called, hopefully finding some wont be too hard.
After having Bud Lite the past few days, I want something with a little more body to it.

Ion,
Heineken is certainly a good beer and i wont turn it away. But i think it might be slightly over rated/over priced and I take Becks or Harp if given a choice.

And it's been my experience that alcahol content, beer vs malt liquor, has no correlation with body and flavor. I.E. Here in philly you can find plenty of malt liquors that have more alcahol yet less flavor than Guiness, Grolsch, etc.

Drink one for me,
Slainte

Had some Yingling last month in Pennsylvania. My brother had it at his house, and then at my son's wedding reception. Honest, I only had 3. Good beer.

My favorites;

Young's Double Chocolate Stout

Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat

Spaten Optimator

The one like I can find most places;
Shiner Bock

Favorite Mexican;
Dos Equis Dark Amber

Forgive me for asking, but I didn't see that BITOG had this forum until now.
Is anyone a homebrewer here? I've been doing it since December 2000 and have made practically everything except for a lambic. All grain, 5 gallon batches. Keg in a Cornelius with CO2.

For what it's worth, my favorite beer of all time is Belhaven's St. Andrew's Ale.
I got to tour Anchor in San Fran last May....what a cool place that is. Saw two boilovers in 10 minutes.

I just "found" this forum today. Love it!

Recently bought some Konig Ludwig - top notch.

My tried & true beer is Warsteiner Dunkel.

Also enjoy Guinness & Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter.

If I'm thirsty for water - it's Bass Ale.

My beer tastes range all over the map and that's good. Ice cold Bud on a hot day is not a bad thing at all. I can think of lots better but I do not knock it. Am drinking a Smithwick's right now, bottled. Someone mentioned that they do not like Moosehead. I am assuming that what was referred to was the regular Moosehead lager for export. I never liked it all that much in years past but have just tried some again and I find that I appreciate it. Now the red canned Moosehead Pale Ale is much better (and their original expression). A very good (though a bit heavy) beer is Blue Star from Newfoundland (home). Much under-appreciated there (though not by me) however it does exceptionally well in world competition. Not that great a selection of Belgian beers around here unfortunately. Love just about any that I have had the pleasure to taste. Enjoy good wheat beers in the summertime. Quidi Vidi microbrewery (again in Nfld.) makes a cherry beer called "Kreik" that I like when I'm overheated & it's frosty.

Life's just too dam_ed short to drink shi_ty beer in my humble opinion! Neat thread. Chimay's beer travelogues have had me frothing like a forty-yard MGD!

John.

I wish someone would import Leinenkugel's Bock and Limited here to mid TN. Two of the best beers from Wisconsin IMO. It's just not available here

Dutch Nut Brown Ale is great. Can't wait to try this on tap!

Warsteiner on tap. A great beer. Period.

Is Chicago's Legacy brewery back in business? They were a phenomenal micro-brew.

Just went to home-brew fest in Hillsboro village a few weeks ago. That's was a great time! Learned a lot about home brewing techniques!

My favorite quote regarding Old Style at RateBeer.com:
"With energy prices so high, this stuff creates enough noxious gas in the bowels of its drinkers that the government might want to subsidize its production."
