Let's talk about Rum

Is black strap the same as black seal? I tried Goslings black seal and didn't care for the smell and taste.

Which one? Cruzan also has a black strap version.

Part of the reason I like Kraken is its high alcohol content - good for mixing, but not exactly a sipper. That Siesta Key though is a nice sipper.
I take that back. Goslings black seal with Barrett’s ginger beer… pussers dark navy rum, and all sorts of cruzan including their blackstrap. Yes the flavor is different.

I usually go with regular cruzan dark, though sometimes I use light in mixed drinks.

This one's very popular in India, from what I hear. Tried it a friend's party the other day and decided to grab a bottle...

I love rum. Especially in baked goods, in ice cream, in a hot toddy, in coffee, and in tea. I rub it on my feet.

For years, my grandpa would let me and my dad and other close family members have very small quantities of Bacardi Elixir-Cordial that he had from his time as a, uh diplomat at the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba in the '50s. After his death and after moving into his estate I found, among many other interesting things, a crate with Elixir-Cordial. Enough to kill a few elephants. So that's what I've been using and I don't expect to run out during my lifetime.

So what is Elixir-Cordial? It was Bacardi's premium rum liqueur made in Cuba before Bacardi was nationalized after the Revolution. It tastes like rum with a hint of plums and bitter almond. This bottle is from the '50s or older.

Angustura 1919 (Trinidad & Tobago) is all i need. But i also like Flor de Cana 18 (Nicaraguan) and Babancourt 5 (Haitian). All great rums, either on the rocks or with a splash of coconut water.

A small quantity of rum raisins to be used in baking tonight. I also have rum cranberries, rum plums, etc. Now that my Aunt Birdie is gone, my rum pot output is going to be a shadow of what it used to be. That woman was a 190-proof stumbling fire hazard.

Lamb's Navy Rum 80 proof, is what my Dad likes, and will try any dark rum. But certainly no white rums, spiced, flavored, or even most gold rum. I like dark or golden rum, but I'm not too picky really, can't recall one that was "bad" anyways.... ;)
I find it amazing that at one time the British Navy rum ration was about 6 shots per day of 60% rum... With some lime to ward off scurvy...
Also I wonder how many ships were lost due to a fire getting into the rum hold?
