lets talk about the best ways to invest...

Who here thinks now is the right time to invest in the market...

Who here thinks now should be the time to sell and fear the markets? I know what it the right answer to this question but want to hear everyone's opinions...

What investments would you choose and what are your short term and/or long term goals... Just curious to see.

We are in a bear market bounce, so be careful. It was a nice short run.

I have read that one... I was more looking for people to post what they think are good solid investments...

I think now is the time to invest in the markets and invest whatever you can so you can ride the wave up to the next bull market.

My rule of thumb is invest in what you know, and if you have trade window limitation due to work (on your own company), then invest or take a hedge against in your competitors.

Works out pretty well for me so far.

I have a really good advisor... In this market I'm still making 8% and before the markets "corrected" it was 12%.

He rebalanced about 5-6 months before the markets "corrected" because they (the company) knew a "Correction" was coming as things were too over valued according to their historical charts/data. So my money was moved into secure things with lower returns to safeguard any "corrections" coming.

Now that we are what they think is the bottom they have moved it to other areas so they can ride the upswing in value.

He is a smart guy and I have never seen a loss on my statements in the 10 years I have been with him. Just less earnings and more earnings.

I have RRSP's (like 401K's), Regular investments, a Tax Free Savings Account, and two leverage loans which I did recently and just pay the interest on (Like $200/mo) and use the banks principal to grow on the market upswing coming over the next few years (since the correction).

I have never made as much money with a bank as I do with Investors Group. (They are the largest holder of investments in Canada and hold just over 4 Billion in assets. Next is the Royal Bank - Biggest Bank in Canada)

When I was with my bank I would get 4% at best and it was subject to markets so I could make 0% if the markets turned sour as they did recently.

Aside from that... I want to invest into some real estate for myself and as rental properties and seeing as I have saved what I have, I could easily get a rental property to help accelerate my financial plan.

I have lost faith in the market.....but I'm not worried, the goverment is gonna take care of me.

You sound like 50% of Canadians who think CPP (Canadian Pension) will be there for them and will be enough to live on.

If you kept investing when the stocks were dirt cheap, you should have recouped most of your loses. As long as you have a long-term horizon (30 Years), you should come out ahead and retire comfortably. If you already retired and did not move your money out of the stock market you’re out of luck.

Well there you go! I'm still doing beater cars as a mainline but have a 401k in the market as a kind of diversification against myself. Put a lot in last March

even though it killed my checkbook. There are too many "industrialists" pulling the strings so the stock market won't ever do too badly in the long term.

residential property investment is immoral.

i have my pension savings in an indexed fund tracking 50% shares and 50% bonds.

outside of the pension environemnt i contribute fortnightly to a managed fund comprising australian shares. IMHO if you plan on putting money now on stocks you are too late, the major rises happended in the last 5 months. That's why i dollar cost average each fortnight. prices are up 30-40% here from the GFC lows so back then is when you had to go in. i doubled by regular contribution during the crash. i have only held this managed fund for 3 years now, and 1 of those was the GFC period, so it is just now breaking even. long term, it gets 12% return.

i also sock away most of my savings outside the pension environment in a "high" interest online account.

for every $1 i put to my managed fund I put maybe $6 into the cash account.

property investments with managed funds rarely work out well.

now, with banks guaranteeing deposits, it just does not make sense to risk too much money in a non-guaranteed environment such as managed funds, stocks, etc. that's why i makle small but continuous contributions to my managed fund and am saving like heck in fixed interest capital guaranteed.

being a single average income with 3 kids under 3 i don't really will ever be wealthy but i try.

i'll rephrase, profiteering from residential property investment is immoral.

I have about 5% in precious metals, about 1/3rd in foreign mutual funds, about 1/3rd in S&P500 index funds and about 20% in bond funds and I've made back practically everything lost a year ago.

I just keep buying, every month. Not trying to hit home runs by owning individual stocks.

I have about 7 or 8 funds last time I checked and I'll be re-balancing again in about 4 months to stay close to those percentages.

PS, I'm in my mid-40's.

I've also gained back what I lost in my 401(k) to my divorce back in 2004.

Slow and steady for me, and yet I'll have 7 figures at the long term trend well before I'm 65 if I can maintain the trend of how much I save and how much it earns.

I'm just at the point where my returns each month are about equal to my contributions, so the growth picks up from here.

every two weeks - most paychecks get paid every 2 weeks down here.

Same here... We call it Bi-weekly... Just found out I should know what a Fortnight is (from my mother)... As I have English heritage.
