Lets talk about Bourbon

I have only had 2 Stagg batches. 16 and I forget the other one. I liked them both, which is why I have been buying them when I find them. I just wish I had the hookup to get them at MSRP. The best price I got was $125.
That's about the going price around here if/when you find it. Just a little to strong for my taste though. I just looked at the bottle and its 131 proof. Think its batch 18

If you have had it a while, give it another try. See if it changed. I found that after some time open, taste changes due to oxidation and sometimes I like it better.

I'm a big fan of Old Forester 1920. Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye is top notch (and the regular is quite tasty too). There are lots of good ones in that price range. On the cheaper side, I like Buffalo Trace and Evan Williams Bottled in Bond.

Picked these up today. Haven't had either. The Hudson was a recommendation.

I have a multi year stash. Elijah Craig, Makers, Beam Black, Bullet, Knob Hill, Woodford, and a local one from Eric LeGrand. Eric was paralyzed playing football for Rutgers and he's become an entrepreneur. That Beam Black is surprisingly very good. Great for old fashioneds.

There are numerous articles that imply doom for the bourbon industry because of recently announced tariffs and the fallout of them. If we start seeing some big markdowns on the premium stuff, I think I'll stock up on a lifetime supply.

If I were to guess, the hard to find stuff and premium stuff is still gonna go for the same price cause American buyers want it and may have more of a chance now to get it. Maybe even go up. I think the everyday stuff might go down.

If you drink it neat try putting a few drops of water in you pour. Try one to begin then add till you like the taste.

If you have a Trader Joe's in your area try out their house brand Kentucky Bourbon. It is pretty good for $15.

Been reading mixed reviews on this one, but at $16, if it's not a good sipper, it might still work in mixed drinks.

Now, TJ also apparently has a Bourbon Cream Liqueur that people have been impressed with. I might give that a try (to add to coffee).

It's been a while since I shopped alcohol at TJ's, but I guess I haven't noticed that they carried stuff other than wine. Will have to revisit. :)

I guess taste is different for everyone, but I'm not a bourbon snob. It is what it is for $16. I have sipped it on ice and while not as good as Makers or something, it isn't horrible IMO. Like you said, good for mixing a drink and not wasting more expensive stuff. I just get sick of trying to find Buffalo Trace or something. It is hard to find around here, but I can buy it at Wal-Mart when I go on vacation?. I feel they are artificially making it hard to find and bumping the price. I like some of the expensive bourbons, but don't feel that most are that much better to justify the cost.
