Car&Driver once dubbed this the most beautiful car of all time. I'd say they weren't far wrong. Neighbor's older son had one in silver when I was growing up. Love the look of this car,

A very suave look, nothing like the busy, lumpy BMWs of today.
1721566596678.jpeg

A streetable racer with the classic 911 profile. What's not to like?
1721566690425.jpeg

A bold and beautiful effort from an Indiana company near death. Family we went to church with had one as the mom's daily. Cool mom!
1721567693303.jpeg

A simple, clean and subtle design that had a lot of second gen Corvair influence. A far better piece of work than the concurrent Mustang. Could be faster too, depending upon powertrain selection.

Love that color. The only Pontiac I can guess I may have seen in that similar hue would be one of the much liked "gentelman's muscle" cars , the Gran Prix of the late 60s / early 70s. i like that better than GMC hugger orange. Awesome shine too. There were actually more than one car nicknamed the "gentleman's muscle car." The Olds Cutlass Supreme - 442s / Plymouth GTX / Pontiac Gran Prix / Buick GS and a few others.

Oh yeah. I totally forgot about Studes...... It was a real loss, just like when the late AMC went under when Studebaker Corp went bottoms up. They still have folks who race some of the finest drag cars ever made. The Studebaker Larks and Lark R1 + R2s that came with turbo chargers. I bet some folks would be shocked to know some Studes actually did some of the fastest times running with those turbos across the Bonneville salt flats. Stude not only made some little fast cars, they made some really posh , luxury sedans for a few years.

My 1995 318ti Club Sport; owned since new. One of 200 built, one of 89 Hellrot cars.

1721578111337.webp

My 1988 M6; with a Dinan chip and Euro exhaust it made over 310 hp- not bad for an NA 3.5 liter inline six.

1721578437309.webp

1971 GTX; I just like the looks- as well as the 440 Magnum.

1721578643171.webp

1972 Lamborghini Miura SV; just beautiful.

1721578824982.webp

2005 Mercedes SLR McLaren; fast and aggressive.

1721579121841.webp

1971 Camaro Z/28 RS; to my eye the most beautiful ponycar.

Sammy, this is for you. Saw this at the Richard Petty Museum this week. Most people aren’t aware that they do Concours restorations on most anything their customers bring them.

Awesome. I had heard about the King and his facility doing all sorts of overhauls and restorations. Everything from as little as "entry level" restomods all the way to #1 level 1000 point award winning show cars. But folks need some mighty FAT check books and a strong heart when they find out what a restoration (especially) from any pro level shop costs.

Nice. A straight axle Stude Gasser it looks like. I bet that thing would rattle ones teeth going down the strip!
I like your Tempest color scheme. My 2nd Chevelle was a very similar GM factory paint color like that with a half white top.
You ever saw or heard of the Tempest OHV-Six? Called the Tempest Sprint. Those were sweet and ahead of their time. Pontiac even put some of those OHV-Six (belt driven timing) in some early Firebirds. I saw one with the side mount Webber carbs under the hood in a car show photo. Super rare for sure.

I dailyed one just like this one for a few years back in the eighties. A very entertaining car to drive that was also quite cheap to run and not too troublesome for a guy in his twenties willing to get his hands dirty. Did around 60K miles without much drama. When I wrote that it was a daily that included winters, and the B was pretty good in the snow, had good heat and would start at ambients well below zero.

Later had one of these in about this color. A fun car that really handles well while wearing out the back tires in no time flat if cornered aggressively. The flat six sounded wonderful wound out while my car also had the unfortunate curse of two pedals and Powerglide. Put maybe 30K on this car over a couple of years and other than a fan belt it needed very little.

Had one of these in this color with a tan top. Bought from a micro sized GM dealer in a very small town to the North of us. A fun car to drive that was also really cheap to run. Did nothing to it beyond oil changes and I posted a UOA here from it if anyone cares to search for it. Did around 70K over a few years before parting with it. This was not a quick car with the little four, but the engine was willing to pull to redline without getting breathless and clutch and shifter were quite pleasant in use. Handling was of course good, it being a BMW after all.

We had one of these in this color. It did 160K with us until we sold it as a still quite useable machine. What can I say? Lots of room for what was a very tiny car, great clutch and shifter and an engine that would race for the redline in all four gears. Go-kart handling, of course. The 1500 didn't have anything close to high specific output, but it didn't need to given the lightness of this car. 12" wheels, incidentally. A cute little machine that I still remember fondly.

We had two of these 240Ds, one in this color. Slower than you could imagine, but very pleasant cars to drive. Outstanding suspension with a very good ride over the roughest roads as well as fine handling that always assisted the driver. There was one sweeper I liked to take really fast and the tail would drift itself out in an oversteering mode that was perfectly stable and not divergent with no help from the driver. The little diesel four sounded great at 70 mph or so on the highway and the whole car had a level of solidity to it that you just didn't get in anything US or Japanese made at the time. Would not start if left outside overnight at below ten degrees or so, so one learned to use the garage during the winter. 14" high profile tires, as was the German standard of the time. A very comfortable and capable no-nonsense sort of car. Did oil changes, brake jobs and tires and that was about it. Did have to replace the starter in one of them, but that was an easy job and parts were not expensive. Oh, and fuel filters, of which there are two. Mercedes thoughtfully built in a little hand pump with which to bleed off the system for when you changed the fuel filters or in the event that you ran the car out of fuel. Did love the enormous oil filter which even had a little wire handle so that you could easily lift it out of its housing. Oil was jet black with a very distinctive scent after not too many miles. IIRC it took seven quarts.

One of one thousand and three Autumn Bronze Firebirds produced in 1968.

You mean OHC six? My car was originally 215 OHV 6. 66 was first year for OHC 6. My intention was to swap in SBC. Was looking for Camaro, Chevy II/Nova, or Chevelle but everything I found was already worked over or was Swiss cheese. Found this Nevada car locally. Always liked the body style and it wasn’t beat up and affordable in 1987. Sold the OHV 6 to buyer to replace OHC 6 while it got rebuilt. They could be trouble. My cousin had a 67 Firebird convertible that needed a valve job at 40K miles.

Those Studes were supercharged, not turbocharged. Also, one of the first cars to get 4-speeds.
