Less is more?

Just wanted to get this out there for those who use or have questions about MMO. I had been adding it at the recommended dose of 4 oz to each 10 gallons of gas and it did not give any increase in MPG. The power on the butt dyno increased and my truck runs better with MMO in the gas, but the 4 oz dose reduced my MPG from about 17.5 to 18 down to 15 to 15.5. This is in combined city and highway driving. So I took Damarpaint's advice and cut the dose in half last Sunday when I filled up. I added a little less than 2 oz to 9 gallons of gas. I filled up again today with 15.25 gallons and the mileage is back to 18.03. So I added roughly 3 oz MMO to the gas tonight and will see how the MPG goes over the course of the next week.

I found it's also the same with MMO in my oil. Adding 6 to 7 oz MMO at an oil change has kept my engine running quiet and smooth. I added about 6 and a half oz to a full 4 quart sump and have had no problems with it. What I may try is adding MMO at a couple of intervals over the course of my 3000 mile OCI, say at 1000 then again at 2000 miles. This is my first run of MMO for the entire length of the OCI so I will need to experiment with that part too.

Like Damarpaint and others have said, it may take some trial and error to find your correct or ideal dose of MMO for the fuel. I hope to continue getting better MPG as the weather warms up here. I know my truck sure runs better now with MMO than it did before without it.

I hope this helps those who may be considering MMO. For as little as it costs, I get a lot of good gains from MMO.

What is your MPG without any MMO? Im not sure that I read your post correctly. I beleive your MPG without the MMO is about 18 mpg and about the same with MMO at 2oz. but, lower with the 4oz per 10 gal(the recomemded dose). You seem to like MMO just for the smoothness and butt dyno?

Yeah, MMO really makes my truck run well. Smooth idle, easy and quick cold starts and the throttle response is a lot better with MMO. I run it in the gas and oil too. 2 oz to 10 gallons of gas and I added about 6 oz to 4 qts of oil when I changed the oil. It ran pretty smooth with 6 oz in the oil but I thought it could be better the next day I added 6 more and it ran even better, much smoother and quieter, at idle and at 2000 RPM and 70 mph on the turnpike. Going a little over the oil fill like that has not hurt anything. Some of the MMO burns off kind of quickly anyway.

Without using MMO at all, I used to get about 16.5 to 17 MPG. When I started using MMO in the gas at 4 oz to 10 gallons of gas, the MPG actually dropped to 15 or so. The truck ran better and felt like it had more power, but I didn't like the drop in MPG. Truck ran so well with MMO in the gas that I added half a pint to the oil about 1200 miles shy of my next oil change. Truck ran even ten times better with MMO in the oil plus the MMO did a great cleanup job. Oil was very black when I drained it. So I added it on the next oil change, but I think it's better in my case anyway to add 12 oz a couple of times over a 3000 mile OCI than to substitute a whole quart of oil with a qt of MMO. I only have a 4 qt sump as it is. With MMO in the oil the MPG was still around 15 so I experimented and cut the dose in the fuel in half. I add roughly 2 oz to each 10 gallons of gas and that is when I noticed an increase in MPG back to 18. It has only been one tank that I measured 18 MPG, but this second tank seems to be burning at the same rate, just by looking at the gas gauge.

Yes, I think MMO works great and I will keep using it as long as they keep making it. It may not work as well for everybody, but it makes my truck run like a brand new truck. I only wish I had found out about MMO sooner.
