I have a legacy hose reel that has no air coming out of it, disconnect the hose reel and there is air coming out of the compressor.

First thing i looked for was a hose kink but there is none.

Not sure what could be blocking it. Seems kinda silly.

It's not the best reel as the air end will pop off.

Can you remove the hose from the reel? If so check for a section that might be collapsed or pinched. Is it possible that the plastic reel box is damaging the hose or is blocked?

cobble something up and see if air runs through the hose in the opposite direction, might move some debris out if its present.

Looks like you can but i never liked how the thing worked. It was always a pain to get it to lock and then in the winter it's stiff as hell.

No leak noise within the reel unit?
I had one that the o-rings needed to be replaced. There would be an obvious hissing where it's leaking with that though.

Have you extended it all the way out and tried it?

I've had one of the cheaper Harbor Freight Tools style metal reels for 6yrs or so. Still going strong.

I took it apart the hose collapsed like someone had said.

It also broke as the entire thing is made of plastic that has become brittle with age. I would not recommend this unit to anyone.

I have a double hose retractable reel. No plastic.

Some of the non-name air hoses from Harbor Freight are cheap and rubber cracks quickly. I have only bought Goodyear or Flexilla air hoses recently.

I have 2 of the Merlin reels from Harbor Freight. Both have performed well for the last 6 years. The hoses are starting to show some mild cracking. But neither one leaks. They are quick and easy to replace when the time comes.

I've got the Craftsman version of that reel. It's about 15 years old now. Yeah hose is stiff in the cold but it's still hanging in there.
Hose needs to be played with when retracting so it doesn't bunch up on the reel and stop rewinding also.
I will not buy another like it.

I have a craftsman as well. It resembles the OP's Legacy reel above. It's probably 15 years old and gave up locking when extending about 10 or so years ago. Only locks when the hose is fully extended. My son and I have both tried to adjust it per instructions to no avail. Retracts fine but that's about it. Everytime I use it I swear I'm going to dump it ASAP but never get around to doing it. Thinking about getting a cheap manual crank one.

I ended up getting a dewalt one that looks like the flexzilla as there are many of that style just in a different color.
