What is the verdict on the LEDs reverse lights? I want to replace my OEM bulbs and I just trying to figure out which type LED or standard halogen bulbs are best/brightest. Also, any suggestions as to a vendor to purchase the bulbs from (Amazon perhaps)?

Just looking for a simple plug and play install, don’t want to make a project out of this switch.

LEDs are still not a viable option in reverse lights, they are too directional. Is this a 921 bulb?

Yes, looking for the brightest 921 bulb to replace my weak reverse lights.

Not wed to the idea of LED's, but thought it might be an alternative since many of the newer cars are using them now.

LED's only really work well in lamp assemblies built from the ground up for LED. Its hard (pretty much impossible) to make an LED that works with optics intended for a filament. We may get there- they now have pretty good LED replacements for standard house lamps in frosted format only. But we're not there yet in automotive-sized, clear-glass bulb formats, and the "retrofit" market will only get smaller so the big optical companies probably won't really jump on it and solve the problem.

well....I must say we notice a world of difference in our trucks and buses. We spec LED bulbs in new equipment if LED reverse lights aren't available.

While I tried 1156 Cree LEDs in my reverse lights I went back to incandescent as it was nearly impossible for other drivers to see the lights in daylight from any angle other than directly behind. Backing out of diagonal parking spots became more dangerous than usual.

The 1156 Cree LED lights I used were driven pretty hard and produced a good amount of light, but directly into the clear crenellated lens. I knew it would not use the reflector but thought it would still be adequate. I was wrong.

Now there are T10 based Cree lights which fire not only outward, but are designed to make use of the reflector as well by firing to the sides as well in an attempt to use the reflectors which are designed to use the single point from an incandescent bulb. Some of these lights use SMD led's radially, some others run Cree LEDs.

These bulbs are significantly longer, and can put out incredible amounts of light, overcoming the imperfect mating of light source and reflector. They also might be too long to fit in your vehicle. I knew I could fit such a bulb, but was no longer interested in trying.

Also being longer, they need to be a tighter fit within the receptacle to not rattle their way loose. As someone who has tried a lot of these LED bulbs in T10 receptacles, I must say they vary widely in how tightly they fit, even from the same vendor in the same packet where as the glass base T10 bulbs (192/168/921) always seem to fit tightly.

Just bending out the tangs is not always effective if the base is too narrow.

If you are really intent on trying an LED t10, I'd first measure the length of the bulb which will fit, and try to acquire a bulb which fires radially and outward with multiple LEDs, then hope they fit tightly, and use the reflector, and are not some hideous bluish tint.

I have them as integral parts of the tail assemblies for my 328Ci and M3, and I am SOLD on having all rear vehicle lights be LED. No, or zero perceptible, glare combined with a significant amount more intensity, and there's simply no mistaking brake lights for anything else.
Plus, LED's require less power, can be designed to output nearly any color, and allow for progressive increases in lighting relative to driver input.

Only bulbs not LED anywhere on the cars are the HID's (highs/lows/fogs). Everything else, so much nicer.

Not sure what was in my Sonata. I tried a couple different LEDs from superbright and they looked good, nice and white but no output. I had some pics at Hyundai-forums.com under same name. I wound up with 50W halogen bulbs from low voltage landscape lighting. The 2 prongs fit right in where the original bulb was. HUGE improvement in lighting when backing up. I'm on the same set of bulbs going on years now and trunk gets open/closed often.

I would like to try the Diode Dynamics Stage 3 led reverse light bulbs in my 2006 Mustang. OE reverse lights blow.

I haven't tried them in backup's since I have halogen. But the superbrite dash and tail lights are great. there are different lengths, quantities of LED's, and angles to choose from, so it isn't just a question of yes or no. It is what fits and what is available from someone with a selection.
