A bottle of oil labeled synthetic blend is not necessarily better than another which is not. Connoco/Phillips seems to be suckering a lot of people in with their marketing ploy. They use a blend of low quality group 1 with enough group 3 base oils mixed in as needed to meet current "SM" performance levels. Some other companies use a higher group 2 or 2+ base oil to get the job done. C-P gets to keep operating their antiquated group 1 base oil refinery and pretend that the resulting product is superior.

People fall for it though .....

Please show me your sources of this. I was under the impression that the MotorCraft/Conoco Blend was of Group II and III oil bases. Enlighten me please.

Yeah I am really falling for a better 'performing' oil in my car. really, I am being duped. ohh, what you need a used oil analysis to tell me I am getting better gas mileage with MC over the likes of PP and M1? Those oils read Fully synthetic on the bottles? MC is a 'syn blend'. Man, I am being hornswoggled. poor me and my GRP 1 in my car. haha

Well, I think the trick to the ConocoPhillips synthetic blends are purely a matter of viscosity index. Take average quality group II, and mix it with a little higher viscosity index average group III, and you get an oil that for all intents and purposes is quite similar to a group II+ for many characteristics using inexpensive base stock with a relatively inexpensive, Korean sourced group III to juice it, giving an end product that may not 100% match an oil such as Pennzoil for purity and base stock quality, but would have similar viscosity characteristics and the group III would balance out the performance enough to compensate for the lesser base stocks. They can also advertise it as a synthetic blend in the US that way, as well.

The Motorcraft blend is a better oil than the other Conoco oils looking at the specs.

Ok smart guys. What source do you have which "proves" that any of the CP "synthetic blends" are superior to top quality "conventional" oils such as Castrol GTX or Pennzoil conventional?

Since when is telling another poster to "hush your mouth" consistent with BITOG posting rules?

Show me where CP publishes the percentage of each group base oil for their products? If you want to play the references/sources game then it goes both ways.

My point is simple: Just because a CP product is labeled "Synthetic Blend" does not mean it is superior to other high quality motor oils which do not have the meaningless bit of marketing on the lable. I'm not saying that TropArtic, et. al. aren't good oils. I'm saying they aren't something special by virtue of those two words.
 
It would be next to impossible to make a GF-4 oil with any Group I content in it, I think that is what got the ire up.

I am pretty sure those oils are made with mediocre group II with a shot of average group III to make something that performs similarly to everyone else's good group II+ oils at a competitive price.

The 5W20 Motorcraft Synthetic Blend works well in the summer as well as the winter.My whole [we have [4] 03-07 Crown Victorias] family has been using the 5W20 Motorcraft Blend for years in Miami heat where traffic is nightmare and a/c is always on.

10W30 is not recommended in the 4.6 Crown Victoria.The 5W20 Synthetic Blend would be a better choice then the 10w30 conventional.

Just IMHO though.
