The company I work for lease Toyota Corollas for 36 months for delivery purposes. Most of these cars get the "not my car" mentality when driven by multiple people. They actually stand up pretty well, at least for the 36 month lease.
This leads me to the reason for the tread. One particular Corolla has been driven by one gentleman for the life of the lease. This fellow is in his late 50's perhaps early 60's and from working with him in the past, doesn't feel a sense of urgency. Well, this car is coming up on 36 months soon and I'm confident that, if interested, I could purchase this car at the end of the lease from my company who would purchase it from Enterprise, the lease holder. The purchase price would be $4,000-$4,500 with unknown fees.
So a little about the car:
2009 Toyota Corolla LE
Keyless entry, power windows/locks, cruise, etc
White in color with grey interior
Currently has ~53,500 miles
The only maintenance performed on the car is tire replacements when the ones on it get bare and 5,000-10,000 mile OCI with bulk oil/filter from an independent shop. I guess I could call that shop and see what the provide and any maintenance records for the vehicle.
The car is worked out of so it is not in pristine shape. It would take a good part of a day to fully detail the vehicle back to my acceptable means.
The car is most probably fed Shell fuel as a local station was/is this guy's "go-to" station.
So to my question. What issues, if any, would/could you find with this vehicle, mechanically? If I were to get it, I would completely service it from a transmission fluid/filter exchange to an oil change with known oil/filter, to tires, if needed, with a 4-wheel alignment. A new air and cabin filter would find their way on it. I'd probably run a few tanks of Techron with perhaps V-Power 93 octane. I'd debate replacement of the spark plugs, though the factory iridiums are scheduled for exchange at 100,000. I only think of this from the prolonged idling the car has seen. If I guessed, the car has probably seen 85/15 city/highway, so the constant stop and go, with predominant idling would concern me with the bulk oil perhaps loosing viscosity easily by fuel dilution.
