Learning to not obsess over detailing

I can't go back to the traditional wash for maintenance washes. Ultima wash concentrate is around $13 on amazon and can be used as a waterless wash and a detailer as well. Has a built in measuring cup. Half ounce solution and 2 gallons of warm water. About 3 plush MF towels to dry.

As a matter of fact, I got inspired after reading this thread and did a rinseless. A little rain cloud came along and I moved it in the garage and finished. You can do that with a rinseless. Car looks fine after 4.5 years of this. I do the "Garry Dean" method and I like it so well I'll even go to the coin op and give it a good hosing off first with plain water if it's too dirty for a rinseless.

I don't economize on microfiber cloths one bit. I buy them for cheap in the big bags at Sams Club. Buying some high-dollar fancy-pants cloth and then economizing by trying to do too much with it is foolish.

Yes, I believe the monthly wax job is getting to be obsolete. The Optimum spray wax seems to last about as well as your average car sealant. I guess there's no fundamental reason why a spray wax cannot be durable.

I put the cloths in the Speed Queen on Heavy duty and then run them through again. I put the still wet cloths in next week's hooch which I have already mixed up and put a lid on it. That way I don't unnecessarily dry the towels.

I will always keep my cars clean but I don't think I will worry so much about fine paint scratches, at least not on a $20k Mazda 3. Lol

Congratulations. Enjoy your imperfect life.

Agree.

I used to obsess over detailing my vehicles but now with a wife and kid I don't have the time. I wash it when it needs it, finish with a spray wax and vacuum/wipe down the insides when it needs it

Washing and waxing my vehicles is therapy for me, after a long week of work it's nice to get in the garage and unwind, nothing better than to cruise around with a clean and shiny car, do both my wifes and my vehicles, momma loves a shiny car

I used to obsess too. Now I just do a coat of ZAIO on my cars twice a year. Keeping the cars in the garage helps keep the coat from wearing off too quickly. Good enough for me.

Good for you!

Personally, detailing my vehicles is about 27th on my list of important things that my vehicle needs. I love my cars and bikes but my rapidly depreciating assets are generally ridden hard and put away wet.

Waxing?

Did a waterless wash this morning for the first time. Previously I was doing the rinseless but thought I'd give it a try. The car was fairly dirty since it hasn't been washed in a few weeks. It did rain overnight so the car was still wet. Sprayed with the solution and wiped with a microfiber. Easy peazy and looks very good. Should have done it earlier. I used Ultima concentrate available on Amazon. Walmart has some Meguiars waterless wash and wax for around $10. Since the car was fairly dirty I used about 10 ounces of cleaning solution. Here's a guy using the Megs solution:

This guy has a bunch of videos trying out the various car wash shampoos and waxes.

I moved to the rinseless "dark side" using a Duragloss product. The only time the hose, bucket and washing soap come out is for claying and engine and under carriage cleaning. Thank heavens the Duragloss has some wax in it......
