I have a Rigid Generator with a Yahama engine. It only has 22hrs rarely used for 3 power outages over 6 years. I do exercise it by running every 4-5 months. I always let the carb run dry by shutting down fuel.

Occasionally when opening the fuel valve to exercise it pours out of carb. Its a little challenging to start when this occurs but once going it seals up and is totally fine running or not. It this worth bothering with?

Sounds like a sticky float. Pull the bowl and mess with it. Probably just need to rub some sandpaper or crocus cloth on the little metal pin that acts like a hinge.

IT IS THE FLOAT NEEDLE. It is getting stuck in the bore (usually brass) that it slides up and down in.

Next time, turn the gas on for only 8-10-15 seconds, max (play with the time it takes)

Once it is started, then turn the gas back on.

I used ta bang on the bowls with a screwdriver handel. Or jounce the mower by raising and dropping the front wheels. Thank you for tip about pulsing gas with the shut off.
