Mechanic was doing brakes on my daughter's '13 4Runner. Said 3 of the 4 pink(red) shocks are wet. Supposedly a $4000-5000 job???
Car runs and rides fine. Is she being scammed? What in the world? There is no way she can afford this. Please give me some direction.

I've never worked on a 4R, but just looking on Rockauto at parts, there's nothing that would lead me to believe it is some super hard job.

$4000, she's being scammed. You can buy loaded assemblies for $50-200 a corner.

If she actually has this system. I can see why it would cost that much. 6 actually custom shock absorbers and the lines to deal with it all.

Maybe the fittings are just leaking but I don't think you can replace leaking shock fluid.

That's what a few here have already suggested.
I didn’t see that. I just saw Bilsteins. I’m talking about shocks I buy from Toyota dealership that would go on a regular 4Runner. I called my parts mgr, good guy. He said he had never seen anyone switch from the red shocks to regular at their dealership.

He said all 4 red shocks would be around $1000 including tax. The front ones almost $400 each. Back ones less than $100 each.

Surely the labor is not $3-4K??

The X-REAS to Bilstein shock conversion is a common modification for 4Runners. Check out this site that sells the conversion kit for $445 - $585, depending on the Bilstein shock preference.
