Leaf filter gutter guard brand

My neighbour just had leaf filters installed (never mind the brand). He is pretty old and his daughter (who lives with him) insisted he get them because she doesn't like the idea of him cleaning out gutters.

The cost was fantastic. He could have paid to have his gutters cleaned a couple of times a year for decades and pocketed the difference.

We have a lot of pine needles in this neighbourhood. I have different and possibly not as good leaf filters on my house and have to clean them once in a while anyway - and I think he will too. I suggested he keep the installer's phone number handy so he can call him to come and clean his gutters from time to time.

I would think these things need to be customized to what exactly is your problem. On the west side of my house it is those pesky long pine needles. On the south side of my house it is those “ helicopter” seeds. Tell us what type of debris you have when you talk about success with guards.

I’m most interested in guards for pine needles.

If you're paying more than $7-$8 per linear foot installed you're getting ripped off. 200ft of gutter covers should not cost you more than $1500-$1600 installed. Amazon sells ShurFlo's for between $261 and $300 for 200 ft of coverage. You're only talking about at most $1.60 a foot with sales tax for materials.

Two or three times a year I get up on the roof and blow the gutters out with a back pack leaf blower. Agree with comments from others that small debris will pass through, eventually requiring removal and cleaning.

Be advised that some of these guards do a great job of keeping debris out of the gutter and that's because the holes are real small. So during a heavy downpour the water ends up pouring off the roof because it can't drain into the gutter fast enough.
