The intial dose is 1 oz per quart oil, right? Let's say my car requires 5 quarts. So I got 5 quarts oil plus 5 oz LC in there. Every 1k miles I add an additional ounce of LC. Unless I have a car that burns 1 quart oil every 1k miles, doesn't the LC concentration increase in the oil over thousands of miles? Or is LC more volatile than oil, and that's why it needs to be replenished? Just wondering if the required dose of LC should be determined by oil consumption or not.

Funny you asked this. I have had to drain a slight amount of oil out on long ocis to avoid overfilling.(I have a futomo valve so it was easy) The key is to not have it at max level when you start.try 4.5 + 4.5 and check the level. If its within the ok range toward the bottom, you are right where you want to be.

The intial dose: from 1oz to 3oz per quart at fill.

If your car holds 5 quarts:
@ 1oz/qt= 4qts 27oz oil + 5oz LC
@ 2oz/qt= 4qts 22oz oil + 10oz LC
@ 3.2oz/qt= 4&1/2 qts oil + 16oz LC

Every 1000 miles add 1 to 3 ounces of LC.Can you see one ounce of oil on a 160 ounce(5 qt)dipstick?

I'll let the experts answer the theory questions.

LC burns off therefore the need to replinish.

Thanks for the straight answer. I think I may give LC a shot and see if does something for my engine.

rugerman, my concern was that the LC concentration might get pretty high over 10k miles. I was not worried about being able or unable to read the additional amount of 1 oz on the dipstick. Based on lcd's statement, this accumulation will of course not occur.

Wow! You can use up to 16oz LC for a 5 qt sump initially for a normal OCI? I thought I read a thread that said to use that amount of LC as a flush only and not to drive the vehicle when at that level?

427Z06,
caveat emptor
I run the ratio suggested by Odis for old engines running thick oil(10%).Odis states that new engines should run ~2oz/qt at fill.
My recommendations are to be taken with the whole salt shaker, not just a grain thereof.
