Ill be hopefully getting a Lawn-Boy 6211 tomorrow for $75. This is a commercial mower with the 1 gallon fuel tank and the F series engine. I have always fancied the orange wheels, brush guard and external fuel tank so I am quite excited. The only flaw is that it doesn't come with the bag, but the guy says it has the mulch attachment so I am willing to take the lose.

I plan on starting it myself and letting it run a few minutes to make sure the carb is operating correctly. I am also going to mow a small piece of yard with it. Can anyone recommend anything else to look for during this CL deal? I told him my intentions over the phone and he was completely fine with it which inclines me to believe he is being honest.

If it feels like it has good compression, starts quick, cuts with power, is in decent shape, I would buy it even if I had to rebuild the motor. But of coarse if I thought the motor needed rebuilding I would haggle down the price a bit.
 
That looks like a sweet mower. If you buy it post some pics. I don't see too many lawn boy mowers around here for whatever reason. Everyone buys the cheap MTD [censored] at WalMart.
 
I chickened out guys. Between his asking price and the gas to go pick it up I didn't see it being too cost effective. I have had a change of heart about it not having a bagger either.
 
If it's still available, $75 is a great price for a Lawn-Boy commercial mower. Does it have a mulch plug instead of a bag? You'd be able to easily triple your money back in parts if you had the desire for that...assuming everything is in good shape. The commercial wheels and orange tank are hard-to-find items.
 
This one just had the white wheels. I had intentions of installing the oranges ones, but even the used ones on ebay were about $100 for the 4. It also had the mulch plug.
 
If it had the white wheels, then at least a third of the "commercialness" of it was gone already (the other items being the tank and the nice engine guard). I'd have bought the mulch plug from you; I have an 8157 that has only a bag, but I'd like to mulch with it. The mulch plugs are hard to find.

I don't think that it would have been a good fit for your yard, though. Especially if it's not self-propelled. Those mowers, affectionately called the "school bus" models because of how long they are, are heavy beasts that aren't terribly maneuverable. They're certainly not light-and-tossable like the smaller staggered-wheel models are. If you add a full bag to that, you'd have really gotten a workout mowing the lawn!
 
It still had the engine guard and the tank.. the tank being my biggest interest. A 1 gallon tank on a push mower is just awesome to me. I think ill keep my eyes out for a staggered LB. I have an 8673 I have yet to get running as well. I've been using the newer staggered LB with the Tecumseh engine.

I would have traded the bag for the mulch guard for you.

I mowed with the residential version of this mower from about the age of 10 until I moved out of my parents house and I never found it to be overly heavy or hard to maneuver. Granted its not as light as the ones with offset wheels, but I had no issues with our steep banks.
 
Our 8673 is a lot like the 6211 with the square wheels. The only difference is it discharges grass out the side as opposed to the rear. Its pretty light as well, but gets pretty heavy when it fills up with grass. The wetter the grass, the heavier it gets too. Go figure.
 
My 8157 weighs in at nearly 100 pounds fully wet, which is a lug to try to push around (especially with its length). My 10330 tips the scale at a much lighter 70 pounds, and is far more maneuverable with its shorter handle and shorter wheelbase.

My 8157 may not represent all of the school bus models well, though. It's a fully-loaded version, with the blade brake clutch, Easy Stride system (with complicated handle), etc. A 6211, especially without the self propelled equipment, may weigh a good bit less.
 
Bought a 680543 today. Had to drive about an hour and a half north into Michigan to get it. The guy wanted $75 as well, but it came with the bagger, mulch attachment, the plain Jane chute attachment, 2 blades and the original owners manual.

Got my grubby hands on a commercial LB yesterday. Other than the ugly paint job, its in great shape. It looks like it has a small 1/2" fracture right in the middle of the deck away from any edges, bends etc. ,but I have a friend who can weld aluminum for me if needed. I really need to take a wire wheel to it and see what is really going on. I am planning on stripping it down this winter and painting it LB green.
