Layoffs are coming for Civilain contractors that work for the department of defence. Large numbers of contracts are not going to be renewed.

The upside is we are as a country winding down the conflicts requiring the expensive services. However for the folks in this industry I feel for them and its local here.

pretty sad. back in 2001 I graduated with a gulp (bachelor of Arts degree) and made $12/hr at an insurance company. I couldn't stand it. I went back to school to get my nursing degree and I have not had any job security issues in this recession. I graduated twice with no college loan debt. I count my blessings. It's not easy.

Maybe individual taxes are, but if I recall correctly, we pay some of the highest CORPORATE taxes in the world.

That is such absolute garbage... Taxes are at historic lows, lower than the "great Reagan years", particularly at the top income levels. While do people insist on believing rhetoric over facts?

These type of machinations never come out well in the end. And such things are not based in reality, especially when local taxes are left out of the equation. I can assure you total business taxation in the USA, especially when the cost of regulation is counted is at an all time high.

And I agree with the sentiment that it seems we waste so much of it. I don't think folks would try to avoid paying taxes if they have the legitimate perception they were getting their moneys worth.

So to avoid getting political, I can say that folks at all places on the political spectrum can find things that do not appear to be a good value to tax payers.

Simply saying the US has the highest corporate tax rate in the world is completely misleading. The US has the highest top statutory marginal rate, but the effective rate is about average compared to the industrialized world thanks to deductions and loopholes. And if you compare most US multinationals to world competitors, you'll find the US corporations pay less effectively.

Because of this, the entire thing needs to be scraped and redone.

According to U6 the "actual" unemployment number that really matters is about 18%.

The conspiracy (by the gov't and all sources of the mass media) is to present the U2 stat as the most accurate measure, which is nonsense, and they know it.

I'm curious how many people that complain about $10.00/hour jobs, shop at Walmart?

In 2002, I was laid off from a really good job. I had the fore sight to see it coming and prepare for it, buy starting my own business. That business did great for me until I closed it in 2008 due to the tanking economy. Since then, I've had 4 jobs. Each one better than the last. I haven't been unemployed in that time except for a week or so between jobs. I'm back in the blue collar work force. I'm in the best financial situation since 2006 or 2007. This is also the happiest I've been in a long time. If you look hard enough, you'll find what your looking for.

Those people's mistake is that they work, you should see the poor people around here that milk the system.

First you get on some kind of disability, than you get the EBT card, than rent aid, than heat aid, than free cable, oh and free medical as well. If your really good you can get into that nice state run condo complex that's on the water, with great water views.

God bless you guy.

I am not an economist. But what about figuring out a single percentage and tax everyone at that flat rate. Close the loopholes. Stop the compilation of NYC phone book size new regulations per YEAR . Put this bureaucracy out to pasture.

is that why I get notices in my gas heat bill that says to donate for the less fortunate that can't afford heat this winter?

I'm approaching that point. Giving some VERY serious thought to going on SSDI for the rest of my life. I could probably even scam it well enough to get "rent" assistance for "renting" a room in my own house.

I don't mind helping the less fortunate, but I wonder how many are really in a bind vs. having skewed priorities in their spending. And, unfortunately, that "logic" applies across the board. I worked with a guy who dropped $1500 on an Olympic basketball jersey and then sweated out the last 2 months of winter, hoping he didn't have to get more propane to heat the house because the company wouldn't deliver any more until he paid his prior bill. Which he couldn't do because of the aforementioned jersey purchase, plus he was still paying off the pool he installed the prior summer.

Kill the current tax code and fire the IRS. Then install a flat sales tax on almost everything, then the only exemptions are for the old and disabled.

Buy a lot? Pay a lot! Buy a little? Pay little. Fair and simple.

As for corporate taxation, Pablo is right on, I own one and we pay TONS of taxes to a whole lot of city, state and federal sources.

Scamming & unwarranted free rides really needs to stop.

I have saved & "done without" most of my life.

- Not a penny of Unemployment.
- Not a penny of Welfare.
- Not a penny of a handout.

------------------------

Now, back on topic (without getting political):

- Medtronic & Boston Scientific announced how many hundreds of millions the Med. Device Tax will cost, so they just announced heavy layoffs because of it.

- Small Business is cutting people's hours back from 40 hour work weeks to "just under" 30 hours a week so they don't have to pay the new Healthcare that's emproaching.

This is SO wrong!!!

This is beyond sad as it's choking off innovative development and adding to the unemployment.
