I'm looking at adding a 21" walk behind to my equipment. It is for occasional/alternate use and not a primay mower. Local dealer has a Lawn Boy commercial 22270 or Snapper Hi-Vac Commercial with Kawasaki engine. One push the other SP. Both are far more than needed, but I like good equipment. The GSV on the LB is splash lube. The Kaw is full pressure with filter.

Any reason the GSV 190 Honda engine with splash lube won't give me many years of service?

Will the LB give a good manicured bagging cut?

The Honda engine will serve you well, but you will get a better manicured bagging cut from the Snapper. That Kawasaki is a killer engine also.

Tough one. I've always like Lawn Boy green. But, then again, I've always thought Snapper rolled off the tongue nicely, lol!!

Sorry, but that's about as deep as my knowledge and insight on these two mowers go.

I love the old Lawn Boy green (I have two of them) but I'm not a big fan of the Toro Lawn Boy green. I sold an older Snapper three years ago and wish I still had it for my bagging jobs. Really left a yard looking manicured.

If the price is comparable the Snapper with the Kawasaki engine seems like alot better combo. I bought one of the last Lawnboy two strokes. I like the Lawnboy Green too and I Love two strokes. I ll probably keep my two stroke lawnboy forever.

You're right. The older green was brighter, and almost had a hint of neon green to it. Newer ones are somewhat darker. Still not bad, but I preferred the older shade better, too.

I was hoping for "you'll never know the difference - both bag well."

The LB has the cool factor with the commercial orange wheels and is a much simpler tool. Plus it is the last of the breed. From what I can tell Lawn Boy isn't the force it once was. I doubt Toro will bring back this model again. Since it is not my primary lawn cutter and I only occasionally will bag I was hoping for a closer competition.

Thanks, now I'll have to chew on it a while.

There is a $250 difference between the mowers, but in this category of mower you probably get what you pay for. The LB is push and the Snapper is SP for the biggest part.

I bought a new riding mower two weeks ago and was researching them extensively. The Lawn Boy was the best rated Push Mower and the Honda was the best rated Self-propelled. Snappers didn't make the Consumer Research list. Of course, Snappers are great, the name brand is fantastic.

My 2 cents is to go with the Lawn Boy. It is the cheaper mower and by the sounds of it, the Lawn Boy is more than enough mower for what you need. Sometimes the SP can be a pain to use in small areas. I only like Self Propulsion if I have a large area to mow. Otherwise, I prefer a pusher to clean up little areas missed by the rider.

Two REALLY nice looking pushmowers indeed. I see that Snapper also offers one with a Robin/Subaru engine (lowest pic). Does the Lawn Boy have the solid front axle like the Snapper? That's a good solid setup.

I like the disclaimer on that website. The mowers aren't for sale

I'll probably lean toward the LB and if I need better later on I can always come back to the Snapper. That LB ain't being made anymore. No straight axle for the LB. Just good ball bearing wheels.

In my book, that is an easy decision. If you are going to mulch- Get the Lawn Boy. If you are going to bag - buy the superior bagging Snapper. I have a 2 stoke, Robin powered, Snapper that can "suck up a quarter from the ground" as the old saying goes.

However, if you will be picking up your mower and transporting it via a car trunk or pickup truck on a regular basis - get the Lawn Boy. Any 4 stroke, Snapper 21" mower weighs a ton (over 120 lbs), and will test the strongest back after a while.

The best thing to do, is to check Craigslist or Ebay for a used 2 cycle, late model Lawn Boy in good condition and grab it. My 6 1/2 HP, 2 stroke Lawn Boy is at least as strong as that Kawasaki powered mower you are considering and only weighs 80 lbs. Kind of like a F16 for the grass (with that great power/weight ratio).

Go with the SNAPPER. There are 8 SNAPPERS in my family, seven walk behinds and one rider with the oldest being about 15 years old and is still being used. All have the BRIGGS engines and all have been extremely reliable. Having never owned a LAWNBOY, I can't comment on them. I'm just writting from our experience with the SNAPPER brand. And no, I'm not a dealer or associated with one.
