Latest ULV discussion?

Little bit to unpack here.

If you wait until Ford says, which is 150k miles, then yea, the fluid is going to be trashed.

If you do something reasonable, like 30k changes, then the fluid comes out fine.

Ford is completely out to lunch with that fluid recommendation, and all of the '10X' transmissions have issues with the valve bodies, so people are best served by early and frequent changes.
Yes. I would clean out the pan at 1-5k then again at 10k, 30k or annually. Once the system is clean an stable then it should be safe to follow the OE Severe Duty maintenance schedule.

How is it cheap garbage?
On my 3d 8f35 transmission and that's changing motorcraft fluid every 50,000. Now on the third one I just drained the motorcraft at 20,000 miles and installed Amsoil ULV. Shifts so smooth. Will see if it lasts any longer.....fingers crossed.

iirc hpl put their thicker atf that isn't ulv in ford 10 speeds. Can't remember their naming scheme since it's by color but those 10 speeds didn't have an issue with the non ulv stuff but they still sell ulv viscosity atf.
