Latest HOA crazyness

For my own personal situation, I am really glad my home doesn't have an HOA and never will.
I don't see any advantage to perpetual "forever" expenses of thousands of dollars a year on my budget.
Think about how much money that would amount to in a lifetime. Maybe $100,000 in HOA fees?

With the dollar at it's current value; mine is $54,000 over 30 years for the smallest-sqft townhouse layout in the HOA. Not bad when it covers all outdoor work (lawn, snow, dryer vent, etc), retention ponds, playground, driveway reseal, etc etc. For the larger 2-story townhouses here it's approx $72,000 over 30 years.

I refuse to buy a house that is part of an HOA. Just can't bring myself to have to pay perpetual HOA fees.
I live in a quiet small town in the middle of nowhere where property taxes are very stable and no HOA fees and zero crime.
I gave up on the idea of moving to Florida after doing some in depth research on the rising house insurance, car insurance, property taxes, HOA fees, increasing traffic, etc in Florida.

I know a woman paying HOA $880 a month for a 50 year old condo in Hollywood, FL.

I told her to sell and rent.

Well that is just it, an HOA is an option in life, just like a luxury car, boat, private plane etc. We all chose what works for us. I'll never live in a community without one, it is a lifestyle.
Our new community has multiple pools including an indoor pool, tennis courts, pickleball courts, Amenity centers with gyms, meeting rooms etc. Its a resort community with a golf course that is run independently and not at our cost unless you want a membership at a resident discount (I dont golf)
24 hour security personal, cameras, gates etc
Lived here 1.5 years, wife and I love it.
Last community another state was also HOA, one pool, playground that was it but they also enforced the restrictions everyone signs up for when they buy a home.

Agree with you, its all ones personal decisions and choices. Heck a modest to small 23 foot runabout Chaparral boat is around $90,000 and that is just the boat not the monthly expenses, puts an HOA is perspective in my situation. Though we have a boat too but it wasnt 90k ;).

What the heck?! 😡

No HOA but crazy neighbor. Years ago I was walking my dog in an ice storm. He fell down near the corner of her property/driveway.

Son was an infant. I was in the walk to our steps, and in a rage, she walked past me not even noticing me, and began pounding on our front door, waking up my wife and the baby.

I told her, you think I would allow my dog
To go on your yard. Eh? Let’s walk over there and see. She refused.

So I told her, don’t you ever come near my family again—go ahead and call the police.

Since then? She has. In 2016 I told her that her mulch has artillery fungus getting all over our cars. She called the police to report it. Really.

I can’t imagine if she were on a HOA board (again we don’t have one)

That was the most confusing post I've read in a long time .

I couldn't understand the first paragraph. Who fell down? The neighbor? The dog? John105? The infant son we hear about next?

Once you say that, the agreement is mutual. You don't approach her again about anything either. I would have told you "Be glad it's not actual artillery."

Non HOA member gets complaint because he was prepared.

Yeah, almost comical, not about the noise but other neighbors.
Not that I am disputing what he posted however, he is an influencer selling his own products and I think that is a red flag by itself.
You know, I seen it on the Internet so it must be true?

Without documentation and without knowing what HOA and without knowing what community/area just because someone posts something doesnt make it true.
Furthermore typically a violation letter is mailed, not taped to a door. Furthermore the letter has no HOA name on it and is not signed by anything other than the generic words "HOA Committee" The more I think about it, the more a farce it seems to be and without names, then it is a fake.
If anyone hasn't looked into it, from that video is a link to his webpage selling products.

I don't know or care if it's real or not. I have encountered 'people' who are like this. So it COULD be real, and it wouldn't surprise me.

No HOA for me. But I do live in an area where people take pride in their property, and most properties are fenced and gated, so no 'Karen' types will be walking up to our front door.

So the latest is the guy who does the HOA landscaping (with his crew) complained to me that my creepy neighbor is always watching him in a creepy way.

He watches me all the time if I am mowing my front grass. Usually walks around his front yard with a bucket pretending to do fake work while he is watching me.

A neighbor on the other side of the creepy neighbor walks his little dogs and talks to them while walking them. The creepy neighbor mimicks what the neighbor with the dogs says when he see the neighbor outside.
