I changed the oil in my '13 GMC Sierra 4.8 and put in Mobil 1. I had back operation in April and the truck didn't get driven much since I changed it in January untill recently. I have 2,300 on the oil and am wondering if I should change it again, or drive it and put some more miles on it before draining it?

Change it out this coming January. Nothing from the norm should have happened to you oil just sitting in the pan.

Maybe on the first drive drive it extra long and/or hard but I don't even know if that'd be necessary?

I've gone multiple years on a single 8,800 mile OCI, with 5w30 PP and the UOA came back most excellent. Oil doesn't know time. Of course if you run really short trips without bringing the oil up to operating temps this advise does not apply

Well January isn't that far away and I don't think you have much of a worry of it going to be snowing or subzero temps. Then when you change it get a UOA to establish a good baseline.

I bought a 2008 F150 from our son when he added 2 children and needed 3 rows of seats ... and only drive about 5000 miles a year. I got my first oil change some 6 months after buying it as he used some quick lube place who didn't use even semi-synthetic oil. The Ford dealers use their Motorcraft semi-syn in "The Works" package for a fair price, and I did that. 18 months later, 5500 miles later, I took it to them again again and tipped the tech to draw a sample for Blackstone. TBN was fine, and there were no contaminants or breakdown of any significance. This was my first engine oil analysis, but I'm in the hydraulics industry, and recognize the importance of regular analysis, particularly for particulates, not looked at with used engine oil.

Ford recommends 5W20 and I have no consumption at just over 100,000 miles. If I start getting consumption, I'll switch to their 5W30. I'm nearly 70 and don't crawl under cars any more; if I still did my own oil changes, I'd have no problem with any of the current SN(+) products; Ford, like any major, isn't going to label and market poor oil, though.

My PERSONAL rule has been 6000 miles, 12 months on vehicles without an OLM, but I am not unsatisfied with this change. We keep our cars in an attached garage which protects from most cold, moisture, and heat. It's probably only 2 or 3 times a year it is started soaked to under 55F.

IMO, your schedule is/was fine.

I would not change before 5k miles for any SN (or SL) oil driven in a fairly normal manner.

With a good synthetic like M1 you could go to 10k miles, as many here like Tig1 do.

I've run oils for up to two years in low mile / usage vehicles. Bigger concern was battery and tyres, not oil.

As said above, wait for the OLM to pop up.

So long as you are not doing 1 mile a day every day trips, then you should be fine.

In my truck, I changed the oil in February, and have 2400 miles. My truck may not be driven for a week or so. Most of it's driving is short trips, with an occasional monthly 50 mile trip.

I plan on an annual oil change (and could probably go longer since I add a qt of oil every 1500 miles or so).
