Larger SuperTech filter for Hondas?

I am not sure of the part number for the SuperTech for my 1989 Civic Si, but I am wondering if there is a larger SuperTech filter than will fit my 1.6 litre engine other than the size they list as the correct one?

On Friday, I was at a local AutoZone and picked up a larger Bosch filter (p/n 3320... same size and case as K&N 1005 and Mobil 1 M1-105) that hopefully will fit my Si. The Bosch filter that is in the book there was p/n 3312 or the same size as the K&N 1004 and Mobil 1 M1-104.

I've been trying to find a larger filter for my wife's 2000 Civic too, without any luck. Nothing I can find which is longer actually has the same bypass settings, and I don't feel like experimenting here.

It's been posted on other boards that th S/T 3950 is a larger (not longer) filter for the S/T 2808, which a lot of Hondas use. The gasket and threads are the same, you might look into the other specs.

If this helps the ST2808 is a larger not longer ST6607" 6607 is a tiny little filter" a member dug up for me,,it has on the box replaces Fram PH6811 AC PF1127 Motorcraft FL810 STP S2808.

It is the same size as a OEM Mazda Miata and OEM Kia 1.5 motor and fits Ford Escort GT's with the Mazda Twin cam motor

I once had a boob at Wal-Mart note that my Elantra called for a 6607 instead of a 2808. For some stupid reason Fram actually does call for the smaller size filter. A bad piece of crap made even worse by the small size.

Now I hang an e-mail from Champion Labs telling me to use the larger filter when posting my directions to substitute the ST for the crap-Fram.

Yep, I found it! The Super Tech3950 is the one. Same dimensions as the Mobil 1 M1-105, K&N KN-1005, and Bosch 3320. I'm hoping it will fit my '89 Civic. I have this filter size (K&N) on my Integra Type R and I had to shave a bracket down to get this fat filter to fit. Point being, I'll be using Shaeffer 10w30 and Super Tech filter from now on. $13 oil changes every 4000 miles or so.

I believe with any clearance at all on the 2808, the 3950 will fit. The diameter is only about 3/4 of an inch greater. Good luck.

Bypass specs differ between the two filters discussed. I do not know how important the difference is. Information is from Wix website.

There are perils in cross referencing on a cross reference. However, filter for Honda differs from Wix'x version of the Fram PH3950. Checked Wix for their recommendations for Honda which uses Fram PH3593A and also 1986 Mitsubishi Galant which uses Fram PH3950.

On checking further, I found the Wix cross reference for the Fram PH3562, which was the original Fram recommendation for the 86 Mitsubishi Galant and superseded by the Fram PH3950, is the Wix 51381.

Curiously, the STP2856

To continue, the Fram PH2856A was recommended for some Mitsubishi cars and the Wix cross reference is Wix 51334. Whereas the CHAMP PH2856A cross references to Wix 51381.

I was at Walmart and looked at the ST 2808 as a replacement for the ST 6607. Unless it has a bypass in the inlet-it doesn't have one. Anyone know??

The SuperTech ST6607 and ST2808 both have a by-pass valve set at 11-17
psid. The micron rating, at multi-pass testing, for these SuperTech
filters is 20 microns

If the bypass setting is higher-to me that is a good thing with a bigger filter its going to get extra flow anyhow. 2 lbs isn't going to bean beans-IMHO

whats the purpose of having a bigger filter on our hondas? this is probably the only thing i dont understand on this forum...i understand lower oil pressure, but i dont see ne more...i have a 91 accord

A definite maybe.

The 3950 has an ~average~ 2 lb. higher release pressure, but, it's questionalbe whether this difference would be critical given the overall tolerance either filter specifies. If it were me, and if I typically operated the vehicle under what the car manufacturer notes as "normal" service (7,500 mile, or more, oil and filter change intervals), I'd probably install the 3950 if there's enough physical clearance for it. For "severe" service intervals (3,000 miles between oil and filter changes) I'd speculate that the 2808 would probably be adequate since the filter wouldn't be in service as long. (But there IS that $1.97 Walmart one-price-for-all to consider, too.) Yep, a definite maybe... If you decide to chance it, keep us posted.

The feeling is that all things being equal, a larger capacity filter will provide more filtering media, possibily going into bypass less and giving us a longer interval between changes. I guess a little more oil in the system can't hurt either.

So is the ST3950 the readily available low cost filter of choice form my 2000 Honda Odyssey ? Walmart is closest to me .My nearby Advance Auto PArts only stocks the Purolator 14459 s as well as their house brand version with the grip , and the Motocraft FL810 ?
