I am about to pickup a new to me 2024 Ninja 500, and calls for a 51358 oil filter. The filter is in an open location and easily accessible from under the fairings. I haven't measured, but it looks like a 6" filter would fit without removing the bottom fairing. The bike holds 3 qts., and will need an oil change soon according to the previous owner. He is providing oil he had already purchased, but not a filter. I will use it, then likely switch to Delvac 1 or T6 in 5-40.

I'm pretty sure the bike is out of warranty, so I am considering fudging on the filter a little if there is a filter that is longer, or has a lower bypass setting for the now relatively thick oil it will be using.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a different PN to look at using?

Wix 51356, 3.4 inches long

Luber Finer LF486/ Baldwin B1431 is 4 inches, but unicorn tears (impossible) to find

Your Wix 51358 is found in note [5].

I use this list for my Hondas and haven't had a fitment problem yet. I use the same oil filter on my Honda CR-V car and also my motorcycles: NC700X, ST1300 and Africa Twin 1100. I've used the longer filters without any problems on my motorcycles. Mobil 1 M-110A, Purolator(all flavors) 14610, Bosch 3323, Fram (all flavors) 7317 all worked fine for 60,000+ miles on my motorcycles. The short ones will also work if you can't find the long ones.

Use the PG cross reference on their site.

And I've used longer Baldwin, Napa, etc on my bikes no prob. Just not so long they hit the front wheel. 😗

That filter is equivalent to a Fram 7317. You don't need to go any bigger. Kawasaki has already blessed this engine with an oversized automotive filter that uses a common thread size. As a Suzuki owner, I'm jealous. Besides, that filter is as long as they get without also getting wider, and you'd have to be careful that the gasket isn't too wide.

The pressure drop across the filter media is only going to be 1 or 2 psi at the flow rates your engine is capable of. Even an 8 psi bypass setting would be high enough.

I'd use a Pentius XL PLXL7317, or the equivalent Carquest Premium. Good efficiency, lots of filter media, not expensive. They also have a really thick can for good puncture resistance.
