2024 Kawasaki 1000SX - What oil and filter?

Four days since the misinformation/cut and paste, and no rebuttal. If I was certain about something with my posts, I'd be all hands on deck to back it up. Unless photo shoots are taking up time?

I'll second all the choices in the above post, they include what I'd recommend in the mobil products and amsoil has no flies on it either.

I wouldn't rule out a 20w50 if you're in a warm climate. However if Kawasaki only recommends a 15w50 as the heaviest oil, it's up to you whether you want to pay a premium for that oil as I think it's more limited in the manufacturers that offer it in a MC specific oil.

With that, I ran Mobil 1 15w50 "car oil" for well over 5,000 miles on an oci in my ZRX 1200 and it performed just as well as any other oil I've put through it in 81,000 mi. Only thing I would note, sheared down to a 40 weight during that interval, as a flashpoint of 400° showed no notable fuel contamination. If you go through motorcycle oil analysis, you'll find it three or four pages back. It says 4000 miles on the analysis however I left it in there for another 1500 or so after the sample.

I try different oils all the time as I'm more interested in what the oils offer for additive packages knowing that in the end the wear results are all going to be similar.

I have been running 15W-40 Rotella (white Bottle) in my in line 4 cylinder street bikes for 17 years with never an issue.

How long do you go on the oil change interval? Do you change at a mileage interval, or if shifting feel drops off, that kind of thing?

The question was how long he goes on an OCI, he already said he's used it for 17 years. Lol, surely hasn't gone that long on the OCI...

Once every year for my bikes that are in high rotation (use). That usually works out to 3-5K Max. I didn't like the shifting qualities of the synthetics after a few thousand miles. It's not the answer for everything. For example in my Harleys I use Mystic 15W-50 semi Synthetic, In my Triumph I use M1 20W-50. Right now, I have SRT 15W-40 in my KLX300, 78 Suzuki GS1000, and my Grizzly 660. The bikes I used to have were 2007 Yamaha FZ1, Yamaha FJR 1300, Yamaha WR250, WR450, 2X Victory 106s. I ran Rotella 15W-40 white bottle in all of them.
