Don't knock it until you've tried it. Done it many times with no issues. Static seals are the best application though, moving pistons (hydraulic of course) not so much.

I would return unused filters with the incorrect o-ring and they buy filters from OEM or with the correct o-ring. I would never subscribe to reusing a flattened seal or jury rig. Too important. Ed

Thats how my wife's KIA Sedona (3.3L Lambda II) filter housing o-rings look and feel like too...everytime I wonder why I bother to change it....then it's because it there I would feel really angry if I didn't and it did leak!
