Me and friend are trying to track down an oil leak on his Explorer, but he tells me any filter has a tendency to weep. I spun off a PH8A for an 51515 on that truck this weekend during an oil change.

I’m wondering if there is a P-shaped O-ring(like a Denso or other Asian filter) gasketed filter that crosses over to an PH8A/FL-1A/51515?

No, a filter does not have a tendency to weep. It will if there is a defect or improper installation.

No a filter should not weep. That filter is under pressure when the engine is running, so you can't have any places the oil would weep or you would have an oil spray when then engine is running.

I would inspect the filter mounting plate. It should be smooth and clean.
I’ll check that at the next OCI. I’m thinking the oil filter mounting land/spud might be a sandwiched mount with auxiliary cooling or an adapter like many GMs use and a gasket is leaking.
