HP ZE4210 With a Celeron mobile CPU. It's about 6 years old. I hang onto it for the serial port which I use for phone systems and voice mail programming.

I also have a Toshiba Satellite 5000-series with pretty much the same configuration w/o a serial port. It's about 5 years old. Both have had new hard drives at one time or another, and the HP a MoBo under the service plan 5 years ago. Ever since, both are golden.

At home I use my desktops (I have several for various purposes), but traveling around, there's nothing like a laptop, eh?

Compaq Presario 700US
AMD Duron 900 MHz

Compaq Presario Don't remember model
AMD Athlon XP 2000

WinXP
Use it as door stop, lol.

This is on top of:
Intel Pentium D 805/ASUS/2 GB DDR RAM/TV-tuner/Video Editing box
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Watercooled/NVIDIA board/2 GB RAM/Graphics design box
AMD Athlon XP 2000+/VIA board/1 GB DDR RAM/Guest room computer
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 3.5 TB/server in the basement
AMD Sempron/NVIDIA Chip/MSI Mega 180 HTPC/Living room Entertainment center.

Oh, yeah, I like to brag about my babies. Built them with my own two hands.

Dell Inspiron e1505 15.4" Widescreen @ 2 years old and no problems
Intel Core Solo @ 1.86ghz
1GB DDR533 RAM
ATi x1400 Mobility
60GB 5400RPM Seagate HDD
CD-RW Burner/DVD drive

It's been used to do everything. It's not a bad little gamer, either, with the x1400. Plays Need For Speed: Underground 2 fine, but NFS:Most Wanted is too much for it. It plays Counter-Strike:Source good, though. It doesn't like anti-aliasing in any game, really, though. The battery must be wearing down, because it used to get 3 hours and 20 minutes with the light on low, now it's lucky to get 2 hours.

Anyone know the average life of a laptop battery?

Gateway MX6455
AMD Turion64 ML-37 processor
1 Gig ram
120 gig HD
LG DVD burner
Broadcom wireless
Win XP MCE

I travel with it a lot.

Power connector socket failed. Soldered it twice. Eventually has to send it in for warranty (mb replacement)
Rubber feet on base constantly fall off (annoying Warranty)
Speakers failed (warranty)

Real problems started after warranty MB replacement.

Replacement MB had a Vista Bios on it and would not ever boot on first attempt. No XP bios available from Gateway( huh???). Screen was not tightened down properly (screws loose and missing) eventually led to screen mounting tab breaking off which required a new base assembly (housing).

Required new motherboard (again) to fix boot problem (NOT warrantied) and a new base plate (NOT warranty)

Gateway service is terrible and inept.
Will never buy another Gateway product based solely on their service dept and policies.

Laptop is still used daily

IBM Thinkpad T30 (found on Ebay w/ no OS), P4M 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Debian Linux ("Sid")

Unless Lenovo screws the pooch with the Thinkpads, I'm hooked on T-series or its successor. Toshiba would be a solid runner-up.

If you see me using a Dell, it's a good sign that my family is being held hostage in exchange for my being seen in public with one.

Lenovo ThinkPad R60
added 1 GB to a total of 1.5GB RAM (not that it really needed it, but made it a bit faster)
No problems; built like a tank. performs great under heavy usage.
very nice keyboard, too.

This old girl survived a 100Km/h exit from the back seat of a VW Jetta in nothing but it's Targus case. It was recovered from a field and still functions perfectly. Formerly belonged to a client of mine who had insurance replace this one for obvious potential reliability issues associated with the sort of trauma the device obviously received. This was almost 2 years ago now......
