Congrats Dave. Here's a little advice you didn't really ask for. Do exactly what the doctor tells you to do, in terms of taking care of the area where the doc did the procedure. Keep ice or a bag of frozen peas on it, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off for the first 12 hours or so, and the most important thing is to rest. Flat on your back, in bed or on the couch, with your pelvis on a pillow and slightly elevated, wearing a jock strap to support the um, affected area. You need to rest and not even think about doing anything more strenuous than getting up to go to the bathroom or to the fridge and then back to the couch or bed.
I learned this the hard way. I had mine done on a Friday. Doc said go home and rest and don't go back to work until at least Monday. I thought I was OK and didn't want to get in any trouble at work so I went back the next day, on Saturday. I tried to take it easy at work and not strain myself too much but I aggravated the surgery area and it caused pain for me later and made it take longer to fully heal.
So, rest, take it easy and give your body time to heal. Also pay close attention to the procedures you have to follow after you are healed. I had to um, do another procedure 20 times with other birth control methods and then take in a sample to the doc for a sperm count. It takes a minumum of 20 times for all of the sperm you have stored to be sent out of your body. Then once the doc gives you the all-clear everything is great after that.
This is one of the best things you can do for your marriage or relationship with your girlfriend. It's 99.999% effective, it can't grow back together like a tubal ligation can and it makes it a whole lot easier to be more spontaneous in your relationship. Your wife or girlfriend will be grateful for not having to take the pill or use some other method that may or may not work.
Congrats again. Both of you will be very glad you had it done.
