Well, I'll look into them a little further but, I'll still probably get something else. We'd like to stay with "T" rated tires. Maybe our choice won't be the Kumho's either. I want something that's rated for 80,000 miles and I'll take 60,000 out of it. I've thought long and hard about the AVID TRZ's til I discovered the Kumho KR-21's.

The funny thing is, Im doing all this talking and I just may end up with Michelin's...I just hate paying their money.

Yeah, but you know they will work...

+1 on Michelin's I have the Semmetry tire & on my second set on the Caddy. I only changed them because they were 7 yrs old. The Michelin Harmony tire is the latest & greatest in a hi mile & mpg tire.

I think that honor would have to go to the Michelin Energy Saver A/S. The Harmony is a long-wearing tire and though Michelin tires typically produce good rolling resistance numbers, the Energy Saver A/S is definitely "the bees knees" in terms of brand new "no compromises" passenger car tires.

I must agree on the Michelin brand in general (though this is taking it a bit off-topic). The only time I ever wish I had bought a different tire is when I buy something other than a Michelin.

Well, OK! I guess if I were driving a Caddy I might buy either of these tires BUT, neither the Semmetry nor the Harmony come in the size that I need for my daughter's car. Im looking at completely different Michelin tires in 205-55-16.

I wasn't looking for tire suggestions as I was looking for reviews on a particular tire(KUMHO SOLUS KR-21). I have read great reviews of this tire with only a few reviews that weren't so promising. Have a small circle(but, not many) of family/friends that are using them with succuss thus far but, Im looking for those who have run the Kumho's to a higher amount of miles on them and their reviews as they are nearing replacement. I beleive their a good tire out of the box but, will they stand the test of time ie; If their an 80,000 mile tire and people are only getting 40,000 miles out of them, then I don't want them. Then I'll look into another tire.

Well, I have heard of them and seen them but don't know anything about them. Im sure there fine but, I am looking for a tire that has the type of balance that meet my particular criteria. Smooth quiet ride, decent if not outragious handling, good snow traction all at or around the $90.00 per tire and I have narrowed down my choices to the Kumho KR-21, AVID-TRZ and P4's. I have the P4's on one car and would love the try the KR-21's.

They made it 29000 on my escape and were shot. the michelins on there now have 27000 and look like they may go 25000 more.

I bought a set of these for my wifes Honda Element. I was very scepticle to buy these at first. They provided very good grip throughout the winter good stopping and traction. After 10,000 miles they still look brand new. I am very impressed and would buy them again.

Just recently, prior to winter 2010, my FIL put them on his Chevy Venture Mini-Van and loves them and my buddy put them on his Honda Pilot SUV/CUV and also loves them. Both of these guys claim that the tires have perfect balance(1st time out), track straight on the highway with no vibes, smooth/quiet operation and of course being new tires, great in the snow/slush/rain/ice. Both my FIL and my buddy mentioned that the tires handle better than their catigory suggest compared to the tires thay were using in the past. The Kumho KR-21's are a bit narrow looking for their particular size as compared to other tires but you would never know it driving on them they both said.

My question is still open as to wheather one can get more than 40,000 miles out of a claimed 80,000 mile tire.

It's a mix of hiwy/city driving. Looking for a well rounded tire. One that does many things well and is easy to live with.

I loved them as well at first because I thought I was getting a great deal on a 80,000 mile tire. Turned out I was buying a 40,000 mile tire. not such a great deal.

Ha.

No Pun Intended!

I have a set on my '99 Corolla and they've been the best tires I've ever had on ANY vehicle. These tires now have about 45K on them and it appears they'll easily go the rated 80K miles. They're still quiet, ride nice, and the traction is still as good as it's always been. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these tires again. It would be difficult to find a better tire in this price range.

How often did you rotate them? I rotate mine every 5K miles. I now have 45K on them and they look like they'll easily last the full 80K. There's plenty of tread left on them.

KR21's are a good bang for the buck. They are not the greatest tire overall.

I have noticed one tire needing balancing at 20K mi.

They are not very good on wet pavement.

Due to the tread pattern, on snow they are good directionally, but not for braking and acceleration.

They are very smooth for highway driving when in tune. This may be because the tread contact area is narrower than comparable tires, making the area longer and thereby "spanning" surface imperfections better (longer skis ride smoother, you know?).

Gas mileage is down compared to previous ContiTouringContacts.

Cornering is good, but mushy compared to Turanza EL400.

I will be seriously looking at General Altimax next.

You're comparing apples to oranges. There are better tires out there, but not in the same price range. I'm sure Michlin makes a better tire too, but it's gonna cost you a lot more....
