I have 2 30 year old 3 cyl tractors and was using Mystic 10w30
in them. Can't get it locally now, what else beside 15 w 40 is diesel rated. I use them to move snow so 15/40 seems not correct for winter.Synthetic is not recommended.

Rotella 10w30 or 5w40 at walmart. Syn may not have been recommended 30 years ago but I don't see a problem.

If you call a bulk oil distributor they might get you other brands like delo in lighter weights too.

I use Amsoil HDD 5w30 in my 3 cyl Kabota diesel with no problems, it starts right up any time. Since 2005 no leaks or oil consumption with the HDD.

I'd get Rotella T5 10w30 at walmart.
if you are below -10f or so in the winter you should get a 5w30 or lighter

(hint a state other than USA in your profile helps)

I have a 28 year old DH850B Kubota engine running my power plant at camp. It's got around 6000 hours on it and has never seen synthetic oil. All I've done to it in all those years is oil changes, a coolant change, replaced the fan belt, and one valve adjustment. That's it.

To keep the injectors clean, I use a few oz. of diesel fuel treatment with each fill. The thing has never skipped a beat. If I'm going to use it during the winter, I'll use a diesel rated 10W30. Otherwise, it's usually Rotella 15W40.

Have you looked at 5W30 high mileage oils? Can't say for sure but they might be formulated similar to diesel specifications.

Not that I'd want to, but those Kubotas will run on anything, passenger car, diesel rated, etc..

I've got a neighbor that has a ~1984 model year Kubota compact 4x4 with front loader and belly mower attachment. He bought it new. I used it many times years ago. Buried it so deep in the mud one time, I couldn't even crawl it out with the FIL, had to use come-alongs.

Anyhoo.. I don't think he changes the oil on it, but once every 2-3 years! All I ever saw on his shelves was various old passenger car oils.

I agree Joel.

They are certainly not fussy about oil. As I said, my engine has 6000 hours on it and doesn't use a drop of oil between changes. My OCI on it is ever 150 hours. Oil comes out black as tar but that's not unusual for a diesel.
