I went to Kragen and Pepboys to get some deals on filters and Oil. I usually go to Kragen because they are more convenient. Now I feel like I have been raped over the years at Kragen. Kragen carries Fram, Pennzoil, Bosch filters. The Frams are $5-6 the Bosch are $6-7(most of the Bosch are clicker),K&N for $12

. Then you go over to Pepboys and they have Purolator, AC Delco and Proline. The Pure One sells for $6 the Prem Plus sells for $3 ($1.50 with coupon and rebate). All the Pepboys filters are great quality filters for a great price. Their top quality Pure One is only $6 compared to Kragen's $12 K&N. Plus the Purolator is a better filter than the K&N. Kragen is a complete rip-off when it comes to oil filters.

Plus I see Pepboys has Royal Purple oil.

I miss my Pep Boys store. I live in El Cerrito, which has two Kragen stores. The PB store gave an alternative on price and selection. Then it closed down for some unexplicable reason. The next alternatives are AutoZones further away, and in some questionable neighborhoods. One in Richmond actually had an armed guard walking in and out.

I guess you pay for that convenience. At some point you have to do your comparison shopping otw you gets what you pay for. Personally I use the service dept at Pepboys for stuff I can't do or don't want a dealer to get at and have had pretty good luck with them. On the otherhand, there are plenty of people out there who don't like Pepboys, or the quality of the stuff they sell.

The only places in my town are Napa and Autozone. Autozone only has Fram, Mobil, and AC Delco filters, IIRC in my local store.

But they have oil slightly cheaper than Napa. So I get oil from Autozone and the filter from Napa.

We have Autozone, but he only filter that I like at that store is Mobil 1 and that is $10. The other filterst they stock are Fram. I like Pep Boys better now.

holy crap i used to go to that one! Now, since I go to school in the Pleasant Hill area, i go to the Pleasant Hill Pep Boys. I live in Hercules, and I go to AutoZone or SP Automotive mostly. The Kragen in Pinole is staffed by mostly morons.

Checker(Kragen's sister store) has just recently started selling the Bosch and Maxlife filters. Before that is was just Fram and Penzoil(Fram) or a few overpriced K&Ns and maybe 1 or 2 AC filters.

So it could be worse. I applaud Pep boys and Advance for carrying Purolators and other brands, unfortunately there aren't many of them around here.

O'Reilly's is my favorite, plus they carry a complete line of Wix filters. Purchased a Wix yesterday for my Dads suburban $5.45! The store is really laid out nicely, clean and neat.
