Kohler lawn mower engine info needed

I do have a TORO as well, with a Briggs OHV. It has plenty of power, I had a John Deere with a Briggs OHV too and it had plenty of power.

My Honda is 5 years old and still runs and cuts like new, the electric start can be balky and I should take it and have it fixed (It has a 7 or 8 year warranty). But I can’t complain at all about it I’d buy it again.

I know you want a plain push mower and inexpensive, but stepping up to something a bit nicer than an MTD may surprise you.

Well, out of curiosity I called the Rural King store up in Leesburg. Turns out the web site is wrong when it says there are no mowers to be had at the store. The woman at the store asked for the SKU and said there are 11 of these in stock:

I will go on up to Leesburg either tomorrow after work or on Saturday and pick one up. From what I read online the Powermore engine is a Chinese Honda clone and it actually has some pretty good reviews online, not too many people having trouble with it. For $150.00 it should be a decent mower for my yard. I am also going to only use the ethanol-free gas from the local WaWa station.

I did check out a Honda-powered mower at Lowe's last night, did not like it very much. It was too heavy and seemed to me it would be hard to use in thick or tall grass. The mower from RK seems to be the best deal for my price range.

I am no mower expert, but here is one last post/update. I went up to the Leesburg Rural King today, stopped along the way at our county dump to get rid of the old gas from my gas can. One good thing I can say about RK is at least they have their mowers out on the sales floor so you can get a good look at them, push them around and get an idea of how light or heavy they are and get an idea of how easy they might be to turn while mowing the grass.

I checked out the Powermore mower for a good 15 minutes and all I can say is it seemed to be made really cheap. It had flimsy plastic wheel adjusters, the wheels looked like poor quality and the mower felt too lightweight when moving it around on the floor. One other thing that I really did not like was the deck was not level. It was about an inch higher in the rear than the front and no matter how I adjusted the wheels it never would level out. The engine on it might be OK but to me just looked to be made out of cheap metal and cheap parts. I thought if the engine looks this cheap on the outside, what is it like on the inside?

I just did not like that mower enough to buy it. I went across the street to Tractor Supply to check out their 21" Huskee mower. It was built a lot better than the Powermore mower but based on advice I received here on BITOG I decided to avoid the Kohler engine. I wound up buying this mower at Home Depot:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Yard-Machine...BL729/205520067

It is a Briggs OHV engine and gets mostly good reviews on the HD web site. Like anything else, there are a number of bad reviews. I also filled my gas can with fresh non-ethanol gas at WaWa. The mower was easy to assemble, I cut one end of the box and rolled it out, set up the handle and pull cord, put gas and oil in it, pushed the primer 3 times and it started on the first pull. It ran smooth and quiet and did a great job when I cut a small section of the yard with it. If I have to later on I will modify the throttle to run at a higher RPM. The one thing I thought was odd was the oil that came with it was in a plastic bag, not in a bottle like I had expected.

I hope my mower troubles are over for the next however many years. Maybe using ethanol-free gas will keep this one running well and in good shape.

No......... that is the fuel inlet needle.

Nothing else does that.

Yep. Either a bad needle seat or leaking/stuck float. A piston issue couldn’t cause that.

Get something with 190cc engine if its bogging, also for fine mulching the hondas with the 2 blade design (4 cutting edges vs 2 in regular mower) works good.. but $$$

I need a new mower, had bad luck with a mower I bought a few years ago with a Briggs 5.5 engine. The grass here is pretty dense and thick, I believe it is St. Augustine. My old mower with the Briggs engine bogged down in the grass a lot and was not very good at mulching. I had to rake the yard after mowing, and I hate to rake anything.

I am considering this mower, it is the only push mower I have seen with a non-Briggs engine.

I am looking for info and opinions/reviews, I have never owned a Kohler engine. I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
I know this is an old thread, but I have had good luck with my Huskee XT650, it is on it's 3rd season & other than routine maintenance I haven't had to do any work on it, I sold my Grandma a Huskee mower 5 years ago & it is still running strong, the one I sold her has a powermore engine on it, 3 pushes of the primer bulb & it starts up on the first pull, mine has the auto-choke on it which im not a big fan of, but it hasn't given me any trouble.
