I was at Mendards today and saw a Kohler engine on a walk-behind mower! I was shocked! I did not know they made engines that small. of course, I was disappointed when I saw the "made in china" sticker
At least that one has a sticker. I have no clue where the briggs on mine is made. I know the mower itself is from Indiana or georgia I think, but as for the engine, no clue.
To me they don't look any different than the $99 variety you can get at HFT, eBay or Pepboys. Not that that's a bad thing. I've not had any issues with Chinese made engines.
It was a sprint run by Toro and all the lawn supply store had when I went to buy is the Briggs engines. I asked about the Kohler's and the sales guy said that they are liked very much, a little more powerful than the briggs, but he cannot guarantee that there will be any more. So I got the Briggs.
The Chinese can made good products IF they have to.
Quality is more the resposibility of the owner/industrial customer.
Where I work, the gauges are mostly Chinese, they are great stuff because we insist on it.
The factory, the processes and methods are set-up for quality and the workers taught and instructed on what and how of quality-it will be there.
