Kirkland 0W-20 rough idle.

My wife’s car is a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4. We bought the car used from a Subaru lot. The car was given an oil change before the sale and interval was up, so I changed the oil for here.

I used an OEM Mitsubishi filter and Kirkland 0w-20. Immediately she complains that the idle is rougher. Interesting. She drove it for a week like this and the idle was rougher than before the oil change.

This morning, I drained the oil and filled it with Mobil 1 0W-20. I got the 6 qt pack from Costco for $25. Not bad.

Today she has been driving all over town to run errands and she has been relieved that the idle has been returned to being so smooth, she said.

It was interesting that she had that observation.

She is be no means a oil snob.

She’s really not like that with cars. She just drives them. I asked when did it start, she said last weekend. That’s when I changed the oil.

We’ll see. I haven’t drove the car today, but it was rougher to me after I drove since she mentioned it not being the same. I have to drive it again.

Isn't that mitsubishi 2.4 basically a theta II? If so I would use 5w30 because my 2018 runs super quiet. I just put 0w20 kirkland in my dads equinox. Very smooth.

OEM spec for this motor/car is 0w-20.

I've used several brands of 0W-20 in my Mitsubishi w/no noticeable difference. Granted mine is the 3.0 liter but shouldn't matter. My advice, take her on a nice five day cruise and she will forget about the idle.

I did it better. All I had to do was change to a different oil and she forgot all about that bad idle. Only cost me $25.

I don't know if the bottom end is the same, but the 2019 outlander should have the 4J12 which is SOHC and MPFI so it's at very least a different head.

Regardless of all that, OEM spec is 0w20.

Must have been all that metal-to-metal contact causing more drag on the engine.
