You probably got the stones because of a mineral imbalance.
The most commmon reason is not enough magnesium to balace the calcium in your system.
Tums, calcuim supplements, and common vitamin/mineral supplements don't have nearly the proper amount of magnesium to properly balance things. 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 [mg to ca] is OK.

Nephrolithiasis is often caused when urine becomes too concentrated with certain substances. One of the ways to avoid stone formation is to drink sufficient fluids so that your urine is colorless (clear) instead of the typical yellow color.

Depending on the type of stone, medications may be given to decrease stone formation and/or aid in the breakdown and excretion of the material causing the stone. These may include such medications as diuretics, phosphate solutions, allopurinol (often used for gout, for uric acid stones), antibiotics (for struvite stones), and medications that alkalinize the urine such as sodium citrate or sodium bicarb.
