"Weak" and "overpriced" are pretty subjective terms don't you think? I drink one cup of coffee each morning and it costs me roughly 47 cents. Within certain parameters, I can determine how "weak" or "strong" I want it. If you truly find 47 cents a cup for coffee "expensive" you may want to stick with plain tap water.

30+ ounces of Folgers is less than $10 I do not need fancy coffee, I need caffeine. Fresh Folgers works just fine for a nickel.

If I only drank 1 cup of coffee in the morning I would pay $0.60 at the corner store and would not buy a $100+ machine In Addition to the $0.47 a day. Yes I do feel that $0.47 a day for home made coffee is grossly expensive.

Don't buy the prepackaged Kcup coffees, get the "Kcup reusable filter". You can buy them anywhere. Bed Bath Beyond,Walmart,Target, etc has them. I bought mine at JC Penney. That way you can use your favorite brand of ground coffee. They cost anywhere from $3 to $15. I think mine was $8 or so.

Even so, my impression is that a reusable K-cup requires about 1/3 as much ground coffee as I normally use for a whole 10-cup pot of cone-filter Krups drip coffee, with about the same strength and taste. By that measure, the Keurig just isn't as good at extracting flavor as a drip (cone- very important) coffee maker.

But it is nice if you don't actually drink that much coffee.

That may be fine for those of you who are forced to live in the inner city, but for those of us who don't want to live in the inner city that's not practical. The closest "corner store" is about 15 miles away.

Perhaps if you weren't making payments on the two vehicles in your signature you'd be able to afford a 47 cent cup of coffee on occasion, and might even be able to afford a $100 coffee machine.

Let's face it, Keurig isn't about being the most cost effective, nor the most flavorful. It's about convenience. This is what you're paying for. And from that perspective, 50 cents a cup isn't too bad, IMO. However, if I were to go for convenience, I'd choose Nespresso as it produces a stronger, more flavorful/aromatic coffee, and the pods cost only slightly more than Keurig cups.

Me personally, I'd rather use a traditional pump espresso machine. Not because it's cheaper (per cup), but because it's a lot more flavorful. Alas, we all have different tastes and like different things. Plus the whole prep of packing the grinds is a little mini ritual that adds to the overall experience.

OK, maybe I'm weird...

I like the way you just assume that I'm making payments on the 2 vehicles in my signature. I also like the way you very pompously assume that I cannot afford a $100+ coffe pot. To clarify for you (not that it's any of your business) I'm only making payments on 1 vehicle in my signature and I can full well afford any coffee pit I chose. I just chose not to waste money on something so trivial as coffee.

The fact is not lost on me however, that you seem to thumb your nose at others for "wasting" money on things tat you do t seem necassary, but it's perfectly fine for things you like. You seem tout your health about and use eating habits and excercise to associate with your age and beyond. After reading several of your posts I think that if living to your age will make me as grouchy and stuck up as you then I will start eating a chocolate cake everyday and never get off the couch.

You must really like weak coffee then...it is usually 1 tablespoon per cup. Which means you only use 3 tablespoons for a pot?!?

Also Folgers is by far the worst swill I've ever had, goes with Maxwell House too. Some store brands are better.

You want good coffee, ahem PROPER coffee you buy it whole bean style and grind it yourself.

AMEN to than one!! Folger's being swill is an understatement! I bought some Folger's Black Silk one time and it was undrinkable. I took the rest of it to work and gave it away. Tastes like dirt.

...But last year, I purchased a re-fillable/re-usable K-Cup. It's got a flip lid and a really fine stainless steel mesh body. I shovel my own coffee in that reusable cup a lot. I like that option. It's way cheaper, I can grind my own beans in the morning and make my own cups of fresh coffee.../quote]

+1 yep, that's what we have, saves a ton of money...

After a double shot espresso/cappuccino made from Breville Espresso machine I could not enjoy the coffee from a Keurig Coffee maker, it's so weak.

I'm sorry to post this in the wrong section. I thought about the consumer electronics, but then went with general since I was asking about a product which is not electronic but generally used by a lot of folks. Food section was not my choice because I'm asking about the coffee maker not the coffee. Once again I've messed up the space time continuum.

On another note, thanks so much for all your input, it makes the decision easier.

40c/K cup if you purchase at Costco.

One thing people forget, that huge tub of cheap ground coffee goes a bit stale if not used rapidly. The K cups don't seem to go stale at all.

I've been through three or four Keurig machines at my offices.

They're convenient, that's about it. I've found the reliability of the machines to be poor. The one I have now is three years old, by far the longest I've ever had one work. I've never had any interest in having one at home.

You can get adapters to use your own coffee.

ANY coffee that comes in a can (or comes pre-ground for that matter) is going be awful. Brewing good coffee in a flat-bottom, pleated side filter basket (Mr. Coffee, or heaven help us, Bunn) is also going to make it awful. Cone filters, fresh-ground, and dark roasts forever!

Seems if you were really concerned with being "green" you would be walking or riding a bicycle, eh?
