I visited the Kendall website and they seem to have revamped their product line, perhaps as a result of now being part of ConocoPhillips. I noticed a 10-50 blend that would seem a good upgrade for my older BMWs. I've always used Castrol or Kendall 20w/50 in these cars but I am open to new ideas as oils improve. Should I give it a try? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Ken

Looks like a good 50 weight option for cooler temperatures.

Kendall GT-1 10W-50

At 19.6 cSt, it's a little thicker at full operating temperature than the 18.0 cSt of Castrol GTX 20W-50, but this shouldn't be a problem in an engine that spec's a 50 weight.

Gotta love that 4.3 HTHS!

My only question is availability - some of these viscosity grades with limited applications seem to be available only thru a distributor/jobber.

It's also thicker than M1 EP 15w50(18.2 cSt; 4.43 HTHS).

Pardon me while I pop my eyeballs back in place... No intent to emabarras you, 777, but what brought about your change of heart vis-a-vis the ConocoPhillips family of syn-blends? Your mention that the Kendall 10W-30 is no longer available in syn-blend raises another question. Are you certain the straight dino version isn't leftover SL? ConocoPhillips was very clear in their press releases about a year ago that the Phillips 66, Conoco, 76, and Kendall brands would only be available as syn-blends in the 5W-20, 5W-30, and 10W-30 viscosity grades when the SM versions became available on Nov 30, '04.

Ray

I have five vehicles at my residence & four drivers.

I've used Motorcraft on many occasions & Kendall a few times in my daughter's Ford Tempo. I've only avoided the Trop Artic thus far & never said anything bad about any of them... just my opinion that Trop Artic base oils are only as good as their retail price structure. You folks feel otherwise & that's fine with me. You buy the Trop Artic & I won't. It's very simple that way!

Thanks for the heads-up on Conoco going to syn-blend with all their oil-names. That's probably why I can't find Kendall blend anymore. You would think an oil company that uses group-3 would advertise it by stating "syn-blend" on the label of these oils. Their sales would probably increase doing so because folks think syn-blends at Conoco prices would be a great bargain.

BTW... my own three rides have never tasted Conoco oils. One uses Mobil-1 -- other uses Pennzoil Platinum & the third 12 year-old has seen mostly Castrol until lately when I switched to Chevron Co. house of oils.

I would stay away from anything 10w50 to much VI for my liking, the prefect engine oil for your location would br DELO 400 15w40 , this oil blows away anything in the Kendall lineup. And trust me you dont need an SAE-50 to protect that engine.

I stopped at the Firestone/Bridgestone dealer where they sell Kendall products and was shocked to find that regular Kendall 20w/50 was now 3 dollars a quart! They didn't even know how much the 10w/50 blend would be if they ordered it for me. Drums57, maybe the Delo 15/40 would be a better bet since both Castrol and Kendall seem to be pricing themselves out of my market. Shortly, I will have four BMWs to maintain all calling for 15/40 or 20/50 oil.

Ken go with DELO 400 15w40, Castrol nor Kendall have anything that comes close to this product. When it comes to protecting the lower end and the valvetrain nothing else comes close to DELO 400. Casjunk and Kendall over 3dollars a quart is absurd.
