Had wife’s Subaru Crosstrek inspected, the other day. It passed inspection but rear breaks were gone. Had my mechanic do them before picking up the car. But before I left he told me my front tires are bald on the inside. So I ordered Kelly Edge touring tires from BJs and an appt for wheel alignment. picked up rotors and pads for the front ….Sunday project.

Also I had appointment at bjs fit the tires, when I get there NO TIRES. Went to Mavis tires only tire in my size was Mavis brand A/S 65k mile tire.

Maybe the mechanic was a local guy and just passed it with the bad front tires. Got plenty of those in NY. Most just hook up the scanner, and don't bother putting the car on a lift. No joke. No check engine light, you get a sticker.

I know my mechanic well. He passed the car knowing I’d work on it immediately, and save me some money. The front tires inside edge was bald, and the front brakes did have a little left. But I was not doing any work on the car in winter.

Good for you ! You know the mechanic, he knows you, and kept the car on the road. In NY, when you fail, it's an automatic $37 charge anyway, then you have to pay again when you go for re-inspection. Friggin ripoff !

That happened to me at Mavis shop. Told me I needed brakes, I went home got brake pads at Autozone and was going to change them, when I saw all the meat on the pads. I went back to Mavis and showed them the pads and I made a stink with all the customers coming over to see the pads.

LOL…no but they put the inspection sticker on right away to get rid of me.
