Anyone have experience/feedback/thoughts on the K&N wrench off oil filter? What kind of intervals should it be expected to handle easily? how does it compare to M1EP or other filters on the market?

Thanks for the help!

I've liked 'em when I've used them. The integrated top nut is handy.

5-7.5k easy. I'd think under the right conditions 10-12K isn't out of the question.

The K&N is pretty close to the same filter as the M1. Both good for 10-12K in a healthy engine.

there was a post last week I thought where pics showed that a K&N and M1 were darn near the same. Honestly I use both, and notice no difference and the nut on the end does nothing for me. Never a problem removing mine by hand. I bought mine on AAP deals. Run them 6-7k on my '00 Accord.

It's a real good filter, IMO, and I've looked at a lot of filters. I often use 'em. Quite similar to the Mobil 1 unit.

You don't really *need* the nut, but it's handy.

In some applications it is needed though. With my Corvette even though I only tighten my oil filter hand tight I can't remove it by hand because the filter is located very close to the oil pan so I just can't get the same leverage to remove it without help. I need to use a filter wrench, or when I was using these K&N filters I found the nut to be very handy.

Hmmm, I might be overtightening then. Just don't want that sucker spinning off. If tight is good then tighter is better, right, lol? Maybe not.

The media material is a little different but otherwise the same thing minus the nut on the K&N. Either one is a good filter.

Can a wix or pure one do a 10k-12k oci without a problem?

strictly my opinion here....but what sence does it make to buy oil that costs $6+ /quart and put a $3 filter with it? in the engines i have that i run syn in they get a bosch distance plus or a m1 depending on wich ones cheaper at the time. so in my opinion I certainly would.

The K&N is great for GM LS series engines. They just didn't engineer enough room around the filter.

Yeah, the first time I changed mine out, I tore off a whole fingernail on my index finger tightening the filter. Needless to say, I'm a little more careful now.

not always. the gasket is made for a certain amount of torque. most filters have low-torque gaskets, whatever that means (that's what it says on the side of the box of the filters at work). higher-than-designed torque can actually cause the filter to leak from the gasket.

most filters i've seen say "1/4 turn after gasket contacts mounting surface" depending on the application i've found that to be too much some times. the filter doesn't need to be that tight. that's what the gasket is for. if i need to use two hands to spin a filter off, it is too tight IMO.

I did approximately 10K on GC and Pure One.No problems.

If they're mostly highway miles put on in a shorter period of time, I don't see a problem with it.
