Need to select something for my GM cartridge style oil filter.

Amazon has the HP-7000 on sale for $5.99. Is there a better filter for the price? How does it compare to the P1 and M1 ?

What's the word on these filters, did a search and did not find much.

Part of the appeal of K&N filters is...well...the name "K&N". Their oil filters are made by Champion Laboratories and are internally almost identical to Mobil 1 filters. If your car uses a cartridge, there isn't any can to make artificially longer & heavier and to plaster neat-o graphics on, and to weld the famous 1" nut to. There's also no ADBV to be made of unobtainium. So what is there about a bare K&N filter element that makes it "better" (read: more expensive) than any other? I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

Correct/ don't care about can nor nut, just want to know if this is a good filter, especially as compared to the pureone.

It's half the price of the M1.

My reply above was my smartaleck-y way of saying sure, it's a very good filter, but is a bare filter without all the bells and whistles worth more money just because it's sold by K&N? You'd be just as well off with the factory-recommended ACDelco...or NAPA Gold...or WIX...or even a FRAM, for that matter. FRAM cartridge filters seem to be much higher quality than their canister filters.

Short answer, yes...it's a very good filter, but is it "better" than an M1, or a PureONE?...I highly doubt it.

Typically, the Wix, etc. are also in the $5 range for cartridge filters. Motorcraft may be cheaper if you can find it at Walmart. When I had my Fusion, I always bought Wix -- until Walmart srarted carrying MC for $3.xx.
